Well ive been gone too long, catching up on your vids clint. Today is ALL about your videos.

Untrustedlife

I never made it to that space stage. I got too bored at the RTS and Civ sections that I gave up :( I didn't want to design mechs and buildings. That said I'm happy it ended up with its community... It looks like it has plenty to offer for people not soured by the hype when it came out.

FizzPlease

:D

Creations would be banned if they broke the rules, like making something sexually graphic. There was actually an in-game achievement for getting a creature banned, haha. They removed the achievement since it sent the wrong message :P

LGR

Thank you very much!

LGR

Awesome indepth review Clint, really enjoying your show!

Plasma3Music

Those creature designs, lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What did your friend say then? Why was your create banned?

Zabe

My friend would talk about this game for years before it came out. Finally it came out and I purchased it right away. Played until the space part and stopped. Man, I hated this game. I agree, the RTS part was HORRIBLE. I still have an email of EA banning my creature.

Flushing Noodle

Amazing video Clint! I was so excited to see that it was 20 minutes long! I really enjoy such in-depth analysis like that! Also, I had played Spore some years ago, but I never knew about the civilization and space aspects of the game. I usually stopped playing during the "first steps on land" segment because it just got boring and repetitive for me. So thank you for opening my eyes to something new!

Jess the Stampede

Nobody knows, because EA is tight-lipped and the developers weren't allowed to talk. Speculation is time/budget constraints and widening the potential audience by "dumbing it down".

LGR

I'm happy you did this review, and I'm glad it turned out more involved than you'd expected. I'm one of the rare individuals who heard some of the hype surrounding this back then but never actually checked it out - and to this day was still not even sure what Spore actually is. Being too lazy to look it up, I've been waiting for you to cover it. Now I know.

Zabe

I only really enjoyed the first two stages. The tribal stage destroyed the game to me. I tried several times and I lost interest at that portion. I am also not creative enough with the creature and build designs (I did make a good spider at one point...), my creativity is with music I guess. I think the hype really killed it for many people though.

At the end, you say "you're on the right channel" twice. ^^

I jumped when I heard "The Spice Must Flow !" I laughed when I heard it a second time. :D I'm already liking this video forever just because of it's Dune reference. Thank you, Muad'Dib ! Eh, I mean LGR ! Long live the fighters !

Maximilien Noal

Aside from those, there's some definite inspiration from Master of Orion, Galactic Civilizations II, and Star Control.

LGR

I appreciate it :)

LGR

Thank you! Certainly my longest at any rate.

LGR

Well, the Euro servers already shut down in 2013, I forgot to mention that! So I wager the rest of the world won't be around but for another couple years at most.

LGR

Not surprising, the claims of it being a bait and switch were rampant!

LGR

Mechs and anything else you can put together, the editors are quite powerful!

LGR

Its been ages when i last heard abut this game. Aweseome Review ^-^

Joona Pennanen

I have this on DVD... somewhere, but haven't been able to install in like 4 years because of the over-zealous DRM... I almost want to go and dig it out now and play it again. Great review, as usual. I never got to see the space stage, but from your video it looks a lot like Sword of the Stars, and that is a good thing. What games would you say it reminds you of (aside from Elite or M.U.L.E., as you mentioned)?

Zem Hysong

Oh man, now I feel bad that I never managed to keep playing Spore to the space stage. It looks much more interesting than the rest of the game. I think the farthest I got before losing interest was the civ stage. Oh well. Excellent review in any case. Probably one of your best!

Nr7

Great review! Speaking of Maxis' Sim games, here's the first part of the video series that introduced me to the Sims series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5kb-7peZLc&ab_channel=HotTrash

I remember being confused when I first heard about what was being planned for Spore and then hearing about what it actually allowed players to do when it came out and for a time, I thought maybe there was two completely different games with the same name or something. :P

Kris Asick

I always thought Spore and it's complexity were interesting. Never played it however. You really got my attention when you said there are mechs though.

I was recently thinking about how the online stuff was doing. Interesting that it's still going fairly strong. How long until we hear about the Spore online shutdown? Hah.

Vaughn

Very entertaining, yet educational as always. Thanks for all the hard work! :)

Joshua Dary

Awesome :D I hope you enjoyed the review! It's been a long time coming.

LGR

I nearly had a heart-attack when I got the e-mail. I've been waiting for a Spore review since you did the Sims Anniversary video! Been a faithful subscriber for years, and you haven't once given me any reason to stop watching. Keep up the great work, Clint! :)
