LGR - Classic AOL on Modern Windows

Fantasy RP is always interesting, heh

LGR

Very fond indeed. Really wish I could get 3.0 working before they shut it all down

LGR

Classy fellow.

LGR

That was... interesting. Especially the... fantasy roleplay group... huh

Alyxx the Rat

i still use AIM daily. ha!

rudy brinks

So, only versions before AOL 6 will stop working after June 30th. The file libraries are all still available, but downloads are broken. Fond memories of upgrading to AOL 4.

And yes the guy, who btw claimed to be a lawyer, used "M$"

Brings back memories of the old eclipse cafe b5 chat room. And the gaming forums. Used to help people on various games. So much so that i once had someone assume i worked for Spectrum Holobyte because i wrote up a guide to getting star Trek tng a final unity working on win95. (set up a shortcut to run it in dosmode) . Anyway guy notifies me that he's going to sue my company for "making a deal with m$ so that logitech mice didn't work with the game "

Shame they are doing that. I think they ought to fix up something for people to review a "Blast from the past" for nostalgia's sake. I also recall us trying AOL back on Windows 3.1 when we first got our Acer. It was hard to connect every time for some reason. (Cruddy phone lines or service? Not sure.). Amazing how different the internet has become from the early 90s to the late 90s, and until the point we've reached today.

I'd be more interested in getting ImagiNation running. I've heard that some people have had some luck emulating a lot of the parts of INN or providing private servers that people can use for the software.

The Cartoon Network logo, Bionicle being mentioned... Yeah, if those alone don't date this, then I don't know what will. XD

Oh man, I just had instant flashbacks of using AOL back in 2002/3 while in California. On a 56k modem as well. Downloads from Kazaa at a blistering 5 kbps. Good times. ;_;

The Enforcer

Oh man, there are people on there still. AOL was pretty nuts back then.

I have the most fond memories of 3.0 myself. Wish I could get that one working.

LGR

Funny how they announced it's shutting down just a couple weeks after I tell the world about it :)

LGR

Cougarbots ARE the future.

LGR

If I had access to a phone line, either at home or with anyone I know, I'd totally try some dial-up stuff in the future! But alas, everyone I know has cut their cords.

LGR

Aww, too bad you didn't actually use a modem for nostalgia's sake, but alas, it's supposed to be a modern system... now all we have now is memories, broken links, and unlit cigarettes. AOL was good in the 90s then the novelty fell flat soon after. I mainly used AOL for meeting people online just for funsies (hopefully the kids I met were actually kids...) and used chat rooms not too often, but I remember going to the AOL chat for *NSYNC back in the day, which actually kind of bored me in the end, haha.

Lindsay Michelle

Maybe you found a ripple in the space-time continuum. Either that or your cougar friend is a robot.

Wow that's pretty dang cool, really. Funny how you randomly got into this, eh?

ReeseRiverson

Heh, my first thought was ... that's annoying modernized and painted up. Because I'm an old school AOL 3.0 guy.
