Thanks for ten episodes of support!

LGR - Thrifts [Ep.10] Lost Ark, Piedmont Pickups

Comments

Heck yeah dude. Do you remember the bin/cage of clearance games and software near the front registers there? Got several cheap Sierra games from that... including Outpost, haha, wow that was a letdown

LGR

I was wondering, If there are so many of these stores near to each other, how are they able to turn a profit?

Erwin Bierhof

Loved this video. Most of the stores you went to I go to somewhat regularly so we may have seen each other, LOL. The CompUSA in Greensboro supplied most of my computer games when I was a kid.

Billy Coore

So LGR was in my hometown of Greensboro. I'M NOT WORTHY!!!

Billy Coore

Definitely seconding this!

That *is* the name of the game. My friend PushingUpRoses reviewed that exact copy of it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nzr64-ESJ1A

LGR

Hey what game is that in the background with the quote "I have no mouth and I must scream?" at the beginning

Nathan W Davis

Bugdom! haha I remember playing that game as a kid it was pretty fun, any chance for a review? :)

Douglas Beck

oh wow i say one of those joysticks at a store too. recently... weird o_0

Jason Potter

Who hook it up into Composite, HDMI Man!.^^ Hey you knew that component also can deliver HD, well there was once a Component Connector on amazon where it was said that his was so and one person ordered it and sayd "The thing looks nice but it doesn't fit into the HDMI slot" WTF is wrong with those people around us?

Ezydenias

Agreed. When I see people hook up their PS3s and Xbox 360s with composite I die a little inside P_P

Aaron Alcorn

Well I know for a reason that PC Monitors have a problem with TV RGB and I talked about RGB, we could also talk about S-Video but never about Composite, don't ever say that word again. Except for the NES that only has Composite xD.^^ But yeah the VGA Connectors are right because projectors (or beamers or whatever) can use TV RGB.

Ezydenias

Wow, so the Wii does support RGB out! The Wii is improved in both 480p and 480i over component. The reason that component on CRT is important is because you get a better picture than with composite, and when it comes to certain games sharpness is not a good thing (especially 6th generation and anything prior). The interlacing of 480i helps to soften the image while the sharpness of 480p makes games look worse than they ever did. The Mega Drive/Genesis is special. I've read that you can pin-out the video cable to a VGA connector and plug it into your monitor without an adapter. That's pretty freaking cool. I'm not sure about the Master System or NES, though.

Aaron Alcorn

HUGE amount of nostalgia when you showed that "Bugdom" PC Game! I used to always play that on the computer!

Harry Thornton

first thing I am sure that you are absolutly wrong with the wii http://www.amazon.de/Nintendo-Wii-RGB-Cable/dp/B000JJRV8Q. Secondly the YPbPr conection only makes sense for the PS2 and the Xbox as far as I know and old dvd player without hdmi. Well and than again only when the game allows to put out 576p what in europe not even 25% of the games allow you to do. I gues the Wii is also nice with Component but only with progressive scan. So yeah RGB is just as good, I saw it on ctr and you don't get any sharper than this. So if you have a flatscreen there is component really important. But I never heard anyone building that in ctrs mostly because there was no reason what so ever. I mean my Genesis, ehm sorry my Mega Drive can only use RGB anyway.^^ And I only have flatscreens.^^ So Yeah RGB is much more useful. Btw. Why can Sega Master System give out RGB but the NES can't?

Ezydenias

You should check 'em out sometime. I know that Edward McKay has stores in Winston-Salem and Greensboro. I've been to the Greensboro one and it's alright but I mainly went there for CDs. Trade-It however seems to only have stores in Eastern NC starting from Raleigh. If you're ever in Eastern NC, hit me up and I can show you some places to thrift!

PaleoSteno

I'm sorry to hear that, if you find one you really should consider getting it. I'm fairly certain it was a YPbPr signal and not RGB as it displayed both a PS2 component signal and Wii component signal, and I don't think the Wii can has RGB out without modification (could be wrong, though). And yes, it was an interlaced signal, not progressive. Kinda the point, right? ;]

Aaron Alcorn

thanks I missed that.^^ Man that thing is weird, so fricking awesome.^^

Ezydenias

I never saw a single crt with component in my life. And I saw quite few of them. I only saw ones with RGB but for 576i both are fine. And you wouldn't feed a crt with 576p would you?

Ezydenias

Yup, the Saitek is what replaced the Sidewinder in my mind as well. Was such a cool stick.

LGR

In the YouTube video description.

LGR

Yeah, CRTs with component input are the best of both worlds! High refresh rate (at an affordable price), nice bright color, and interlacing for old games/movies. I had a ~20-22 inch flat screen CRT with component input and it was the best while it lasted.

Aaron Alcorn

I think I saw the tower you mentioned about to me, that my server's spawn tower looked like. Pretty cool how that turned out to be such a coincidence. lol I need to try to check out other Goodwill stores in my area. :)

ReeseRiverson

Special ceremonial bread? ;)

Alyxx the Rat

Force Feedback Pro? Niiiiiice. I always wanted one of those back in the day, though I did (and still do) have it's little sibling the Precision Pro.

Rob Caporetto

Believe it or not, i was playing Rayman (DOS) with a sidewinder precision pro and lots of platform games with. I still got it (2 of them actually) but their joystick part are kinda weak now thus not centering not very well needing to ajust the dead-zone. But those back in the day were really good joysticks !

Aaaaaaaaaa I'm so jealous of that Sidewinder find! A friend of mine had one long ago, and it was the most accurate and well-built joystick I'd used until… Well, right up until I tried a Saitek X52. I ended up getting a Logitech Wingman Extreme Pro Force Feedback for Christmas one year that died after 2 hours instead. Yes, hours. And I got a non-ff version later that died in a matter of months. Put me off from Logitech gear for quite a while. I still remember using this stick with Mechwarrior 3 on his PC…

Runefox

where is the link to this story you found?

Ezydenias

There are ctrs with component cables? Really you mean y pr pb?

Ezydenias

Nice MS Bob in the background at the beginning. ;-D Also I'm glad I'm not the only one who keeps stumbling across boxes of 3.5" floppies, though none of mine have had anything on them.

Aspen Kelley

same here, morning thrifting. :)

Maximilien Noal

What a great way to wake up this morning (as I'm in Europe); with a new episode of LGR Thrifts. Really entertaining and interesting as usual. Thank you for doing these.

Magnus Asplund

Nope, have never heard of either chain actually. Sounds sweet though

LGR

Feel all the special you want!

LGR

I guessed it had to be fake as well, but I mean, I had no idea really! Just assumed since others were passing it up it had to be.

LGR

I have a question for ya, Clint. Have you ever been to the Edward McKay stores or the Trade-It store chain in North Carolina? Trade-It -sometimes- has good deals depending on the store, same with Edward McKay but it really depends on the item they get since they tend to look up what prices their going for like the Lost Ark place and most game-focused stores, but they are generally cheaper. Like, the NES games I found were 3 bucks and SNES games were 5 bucks. Some were marked up, but none were too high unless they were rare, and even then the price was cheaper than eBay. I saw Power Blade there for 10 bucks and then looked it up seeing it going for 20 or more. Same thing with the Yoshi's Island, it was 20, but I won't be able to find it online for cheaper than that because of the game's legacy, plus I traded in a bunch of useless junk I had in the attic and essentially paid nothing for the 4 games I got. I also got GTA2 for 3 bucks from there a week before. Their PS1 games are usually cheap too.

PaleoSteno

That PowerRangers whas the correct too :D Mighty Morphin Power Rangers with dino Zord`s :)

StigDesign1

I feel special now. I saw a pic I sent Clint on Twitter used at the end. Silly thing to feel special over, I know.

Matt Cain

Hey, I used to write random fiction that I stored on floppy disks, too! But that isn't my story, sorry to say. :P Also, as a female who is somewhat knowledgeable about fashion and their brands, that Louis Vuittion bag is either very fake (knockoffs of expensive purses like that are extremely common) or a real one happened to make it to Goodwill by some sort of rare event. My guess is it's fake, but who knows. It's possible to find a real and valuable item like that at a thrift store, but you gotta be lucky and have your eyes peeled. Kind of goes with any type of item at a thrift store, as you well know, LGR! :)

Lindsay Michelle

yaay new video right before bed lol. :D

StigDesign1

You grew up in Flavour Country? Quote of the episode: "I like wood!" Where's the ghost slaying manifest????

Michael Hogan

Yay for licensed games! Minority Report is definitely one of those games with repetitive mobs to add "pacing." But it is also one of few games to do JETPACKING correctly! And I guess they couldn't use Tom Cruise's likeness so you play as a gray haired man instead (which works for me). p.s. I'm glad to support this show. Keep on keepin' on.
