BACK FROM (BLFC) HIATUS! & Tutorial Suggestions Open
Added 2018-05-16 18:43:33 +0000 UTCBeen busy for the past few weeks prepping for and getting to BLFC and back! (BLFC is Biggest Little Fur Con, a furry convention in Reno, Nevada)
I met a ton of cool people at BLFC including a ton of friends who I finally met in person for the first time and it's really got me motivated again to get some good new work done! There were a surprising amount of fellow game devs I met/hung out with during the whole con, and a ridiculous amount of people who I knew already that ended up going! Unfortunately, I only got to meet up with a handful of the people throughout the con out of the long list of mutuals, but I'm beyond jazzed about going again next year since this was an enormous morale boost!
Big apologies for being pretty dang absent over the past month. I had meant to make a post explaining the hiatus prior but I donked up and forgot to do that.
CURRENT STATE:
Right now I'm in the middle of prepping a playable proof-of-concept for a game I'm working on that I'm honestly pretty excited about. I won't spoil the details about it (though it is something I've been posting a lot of tech tests of), but I would like to entertain the idea of a limited release the proof-of-concept build for patrons.
Once I get this out of the way (or I end up needing a breather from working on it for a bit), I would really like to start up a Shader Programming 101 series that covers everything you need to know about shaders with a novice entry point. I'm hoping to get at least the first volume done by late June at the latest (keep in mind that I plan on having a number of visual diagrams, motion graphics, and interactive demos to explain things since literally no one does that, and those things take time to plan and produce).
TUTORIAL SUGGESTIONS:
Seeing as that previous thing might mean I wouldn't have a single publication in nearly two months, I would like to at least write up another tutorial on a smaller subject. Current ideas include but are not limited to:
- [Shader] Dithering Part 2: a look at the hardware rendering on PS1 (& revisions/additions to Part 1 including diagrams & animations)
- [C#] Prototyping Custom Audio Filters w/ OnAudioFilterRead()
- [Shader] Datamoshing Part 2: Isolating the effect to volumes
- [C#] Making Analog Vector Graphics with Audio using an Oscilloscope and OnAudioFilterRead() (also, how to make a virtual oscilloscope with a vertex shader to visualize it all)
If any of these topics interest you, please comment letting me know which one so I can get started on the most requested one! New requests/suggestions are also welcome since I do understand that a lot of these may be rather esoteric and not widely applicable.
COMING UP:
Next month I'm going to be flying out to Vancouver for a few weeks and I'm not too certain if I'll be able to work on any tutorial content while up there, but I am expecting to work on multiple playable jam projects that I will be sure to post about here. After that, I should be able to start up a more regular publication schedule.
Comments
I would love some custom audio filter tutorials, but would be pretty happy with the crt style shader too as Bryce said :)
