I fall on the side of really liking this episode. I don't care for musical episodes, so I was so grateful they didn't do full songs (nor dance routines) and only used excerpts to emphasize an emotional point. To me, the amount used of music was just enough because it was minimal. If you like musicals, I can get why this might disappoint you. I actually remember really enjoying Anna Torv's slow and low version of that song "For Once In My Life." It fit the situation because it was more melancholy than the original version which is upbeat. But, over all, I liked how they summed up the emotional beats of the current situation so that a child could understand it and they did it in a fun sort of retro-futuristic world. I remember my friend and I watching it and talking about how it looked all 40s noir, but they had cell phones and other modern tech, they just looked like if that tech existed back then. Over all, I love when TV shows step outside of their genre and do a different style, usually done like this by telling a story or seeing a dream. It's fun and show's that they can have fun with themselves in a meta sort of way. That being said, I'm in the minority with not caring for musical episodes. I'm the only person I know that was uncomfortable all through the Buffy episode, "Once More With Feeling," and breathed a sigh of relief when it was over. I was also happy when Joss basically said, "Yeah, we're never doing that again." I think it was because it was a lot of extra work for one episode, not because it was not well-received 'cause I'm pretty sure it was.

Whenever that happens, I just assume the actor can't sing very well. So, I assumed that Joshua Jackson is not a strong singer and maybe can't carry a tune.

Thadman

Every show has to have a singing episode. But why was Peter the only one who didn't sing?
