Excellent reaction! My read has always been that Amos struggles with detachment and finding his empathy himself (from his background he's very close to sociopathic / psychopathic) and so he realised that he could relate, in a way, to find the triggers which the others would never see (using his flavour of neuro-spicy) to get the scientist talking. The way he just walked away when the scientist was begging for more info demonstrated how he had detached himself for the purpose of "solving the problem". Whether he can really feel empathy or just "understand it" remains to be seen...

People are choosing sides, and trying to find out where they all fit in whatever is happening. It's going to be very intersting to see what happens next.
