Hello All!

I freakin' love the scenes between Spike & Buffy. They're filled with so much emotion and tension and it's just asdfghjkl - more of those plz. I also enjoy Willow & Buffy scenes as always and we even got more Xander/Anya scenes like the good old times. I'm FUMING over Principal Wood though...I wanted to like him so badly!!!

Hope you enjoy the reaction folks. Have a lovely week everyone! Thank you for the constant love & support!

Much love

Dakara x

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reaction 7x09

Comments

When you said something about Spike and Buffy and it is hard to watch, seems like you are watching something personal, or something like that. Totally reminded me of how I felt when I watched Blue Valentine and HER. I love both of these movies because of that. Of how intimate it feels. Like you are a fly on the wall. If you haven't seen both of these movies and you enjoy the experience you spoke of, I would highly recommend them!

I was around the convention scene while Buffy was still on the air and it was a magical time… some great memories

Paul Thomas-Humphreys

I might be in the minority but I appreciated Willow's joke. To me, it's typical dark and dry "Buffy" humor. But I can see that after "Selfless", the threat to kill Anya may hit a little too close to home for some. Fine line, I guess.

I really liked your rumination on how much you love this show. As someone who DID watch it when it originally aired, I concur that it's quite special, and occupies a space in my heart with only three other shows sharing that real estate. I understand you kind of wish you had been tuned in when it was new, but, selfishly, I am glad I get to see you experience it now.

It wasn't clear from your reaction and discussion whether you remembered when The First has appeared before. If you don't remember the details it might be good to slip in a sneaky re-watch of 3x10 Amends before you get to the next episode.

Fairly solid episode, though some aspects of the story seem a little contrived. Why did the First need to bring Andrew all the way from Mexico just to spill some blood when it was already controlling Spike? Minor quibble though, I guess the writers needed to get Andrew involved somehow since they clearly aren't done with him. There are some nice scenes here with Buffy and Spike, and good bits of humour throughout the episode. I liked Anya's dig at Buffy not killing Spike (justified IMO) and Xander not taking the bait! Willow's joke about killing Anya seemed a bit off though, I'd forgotten about that.

You gotta love Anya. "Maybe it's another musical? Just a more crappier one". I have to give credit to the writer Drew Goddard for this episode. It was his first writing job ever, and he also wrote the Anya-episode "Selfless" and the unique "Conversations with dead people" before. He was perfect with where the characters was, and his episodes always have a LOT of callbacks. After the end of Buffy, he will go on to be the chief story editor of Angel S5, the best season of Angel imo. Watch out for more Drew Goddard episodes this season...

For some reason I thought there was an extra scene with the council that made it more obvious they were blown up. I guess I got it mixed up with early Angel.

Collinson

I don't think the council knew what they were dealing with when they spoke to Buffy, the scene at the end was them realising just what they were facing, then, BOOM, goodbye council. If you remember Amends and The First showing as dead people to convince Angel to kill himself then it makes more sense, doesn't really matter if you don't but it helps if you know the first and his weird eyeless monk things that follow it.

Matt

I dont think they needed spike for the seal. It just didnt have enough blood yet and needed some more. The first wanted spike to use him against the gang cos he likes being subvertive, or dramatic. Then now using spike for the blood with the runes etc, since the cat is out of the bag, he went with dramatic. When they figure out it is the first, I always like that scene, with the harbingers and how it links all the way back to seaosn 3, when angel was being haunted by the First. The emotional scenes between Spike and Buffy were well done as usual, and with Willow aswell. They play those emotional scenes soo well always. The scene with Willow and Andrew always gives me a good chuckle. Oh and good for Dawn to get a few good moves under her belt. Whatever is going on with Wood, we're atleast definitely supposed to think he's bad at this point. Mysteries abound. God I love this show. Lookin forward to the next :). The season has begun :P Oh, and the council are just douchebags. Selfabsorbed pricks that think they are the be-all end-all. But hey, it got em blown up so.... yea.

Bart Aansorgh

I remember being confused the first time I watched it when Buffy was all "I've fought them before. It's The First". S3 was low on my rewatch list then and Amends even lower than that. Honestly I think I've realised only after browsing some fan fora... It's done beautifully and makes a lot of sense once you know tho. It's the final season and she already fought a god; of course the Big Bad needs to be bigger than that.

DB

I know you're not ready to say goodbye yet - but there is a new Audible series that's literally just come out which might be a good listen for you after you finish the show. I've not listened to it yet and have no idea what it's about, but I'll get there eventually. Also the subtitles almost ruined the surprise at the end it said [First/Spike] and I was like 'eek'. I'm glad you didn't notice/put it together. It could have meant first or second Spike lol.
