Hello All!

I hate this stupid show!!! My heart STRUGGLED with the Tara and Joyce stuff in this one. Poor Dawnie had it rough, holy. As much as I complained through this one, realistically, I loved it hahaha. It was heavy on the heart and feels, expanded my mind and also made me question what's to come in future episodes. I may be crying but I am excited for the rest of the journey!

Hope you enjoy the reaction folks. Have a lovely week everyone! Thank you for the constant love & support!

Much love

Dakara x

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reaction 7x07

Comments

I've always felt that this episode is a little over hyped. The original intention for the Willow scenes was to bring Amber Benson back as Tara, and while the final version does what it needs to I don't think it's as effective as it could have been. It makes little sense that the big bad would appear as a one-off character who Willow never actually met! I thought the Dawn scenes were well done, but I've never really understood them as part of the season arc. If it's just the big bad messing with Dawn then it's not consistent with how it acts elsewhere. Still a decent episode though, and I get the overall theme. I like how the stories don't intersect with each other but all come to a head by the end. But compared to previous seasons, I don't think it's the equal of 6x07 or 5x07.

“My favorite Xander episode…..” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

My impression of what the show means by Buffy's superiority complex is that she feels that, as the Slayer, she has a more meaningful life, stopping evil; and that because of this she thinks more deeply about the world. Her inferiority complex comes from not thinking these are okay things to think. But as the Slayer, she has to think them. Like how in 7x5 she had to be the law and had to think of killing Anya. The Slayer doesn't get the luxury of thinking their work is less meaningful than the average person, because it isn't.

Eddie Green

It is a bit slow up to this point but this was essentially the last episode of the gang being clueless. All will be revealed soon.

I also love the intro and outro of the episode. Back to the Bronze The music was haunting and very Buffy. In the intro it showed what they were doing on a typical evening, specifically November 12, 2002 8:01 PM which is when it originally aired. My favorite Xander episode as well. Your idea that the vampire was a manifestation of the beneath you entity was an interesting one that I hadn't considered. I've thought Willow was visited by it, but the vampire really was who and what he stated. And Dawn experienced an old fashioned haunting where I was left guessing whether the Joyce she saw was really her. Three different types of conversations.

Bud Haven

This is my least fav of the Buffy “special” episodes. It felt very heavy handed in its themes and did not feel like it fit the flow of a Buffy show.

Nathanael Myer

The show continues its practice of having the 7th episode of the season be noteworthy. And, in this case, they're telling you right up front that it's meant to be special with the unusual opening. I think it lives up to its ambition. I hope you're feeling better!

Probably my favorite episode of the season. Buffy gets a little bit of the therapy she so needs. Buffy really got into her relationship with Spike in a honest way. She admitted that she thinks Spike loved her, in his own way. And she was with him because she was hurting, and wanted to hurt. She admitted she treated him badly, And that he treated her badly as well. She has a connection to him that isn't matched by Willow or Xander. He knows the Slayer part of her.

Ahhh! Episode 7- Here We Go... ;-) The conversation between Buffy and Webs, the vampire therapist (thera-vamp?) is one of my favorite moments in this episode, if not the series as a whole. Buffy really needed that. A few more inside glimpses into this episode: The date & time given at the beginning is the original air date and time, so if watching in real time, the audience got that chill of, "Oh, this is happening Right Now!". The song "Blue" at the beginning (and end) of this ep was co-written by Joss Whedon specifically for the episode. Performed by Angie Hart. An earlier version of the script included Xander being visited by his friend Jesse (who you might remember was his buddy who was turned into a vampire in the pilot 2-parter). Unfortunately the actor wasn't available. It's too bad, I feel it would have helped provide some deeper understanding of why Xander dislikes vampires (particularly Angel and Spike) as much as he does. It's also my understanding that originally they wanted Amber Benson to return as Tara to visit Willow in the library scenes but Benson declined because she knew there were a lot of Tillow fans that were still upset over her death and didn’t want to portray the dark turn at the end of the conversation. She wanted to keep the Tillow relationship untarnished as much as possible. And lastly- an inside joke: Webs tells Buffy that Scott Hope came out after high school graduation. Fab Filippo, the actor who played Scott Hope, went on to play a gay character in the TV series “queer as folk” after leaving BtVS.

I actually haven't watched this season since it aired as I really hate watching the last season of shows I love as it means I can pretend they never ended lol. I'm actually enjoying it more than I thought I would. This was a great episode. The big bad messing with everyone in very scary ways finally showing itself to the gang. The episode title took itself literally and all our characters had conversations with dead people. Dawn handled a very scary situation well, Willow spotted deception when the big bad went to far and Buffy had a very interesting therapy session with a vampire. A great episode all around.

Collinson

Dawn was watching a horror movie when the entity began it's manipulation using those tropes so there is some symmetry. 'Slow' or 'setting up the story'? Guess it's a matter of personal opinion. setups done: AND SO, IT BEGINS 🤔

Why do we watch this show? because it makes us feel things Dakara :). good and bad. I personally love this episode, it builds a bit on all the small things that happened before this episode, "from beneath you, it devours". The last sentence there. "Not it... Me." So multiple people are seeing people that were allready dead, and they all are trying to manipulate ppl somehow. To me this episode builds quite a bit of tension and feels like it moves the plot forward. Then the stuff with Joyce and Dawn, its right out of a horror movie but i feel its very well done. Was showing joyce on the couch nesecary? well, maybe, maybe not. That would depend on who or what is causing all of this in my opinion. Buffy opening up to a random vampire, is some sort of full circle. Many of her milestones relationship wise were with a vampire. The point of Buffy being better than the rest or not is also an interesting point of view. There are definite aspects where Buffy is better than the rest, but then theres other aspects where she needs her friends, where they in fact are her strength. In that regard i dont think Buffy is better than them, i'd say they complete her. :) I love this episode and this season. Can't wait for the rest.
