Hello All!

If you could find out how long you had left on this earth would you choose to know or is ignorance bliss?  I felt for Cassie here, what a shame, such a lovely gal with so much potential to be taken so soon. A reminder for Buffy that she can't save everyone!

Hope you enjoy the reaction folks. Have a lovely week everyone! Thank you for the constant love & support!

Much love

Dakara x

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reaction 7x04

Comments

I just got that for the first time watching this reaction

Dutchkel

I loved this episode for so many reasons, but the thing I might love the most is the very end. When Buffy asks what you're supposed to do if you can't help... that question is answered with the visual of Buffy going back to work the next day. Basically, you keep going, and you keep trying, you just keep going. I absolutely love that message.

indaeo

Her family are in Sunnydale. There's no gain in burying her where her blood kin are. The only one of them who truly loved her was her mother and she died years earlier.

Eddie Green

Does it make sense for Tara to be buried in Sunnydale? Like sure she didn't have a great relationship with her family. But would she be buried in sunnydale or back where ever her family came from? She was originally there just to study?

Merkavar

I was so angry when they cancelled Freaks and Geeks. I loved that show so much.

Brian Dworak

Sarah Hagan plays the student who beat up her bully. Love her, there is definitely something distinctive about her. And you're right, Dak, she was in Grey's Anatomy. She was also a regular on Freaks and Geeks, a pretty brilliant and (sadly) short-lived 1999 TV show. It also starred James Franco, Seth Rogen and Linda Cardellini. If you haven't already seen it, it would be a great re-watch (only 13 episodes)! I enjoyed Dawn's gumshoe detective persona during this episode ("I'm likin' Michael for the perp")- it was a nice low-key bit of comedy during an otherwise pretty heavy storyline. I feel like the cold open where Buffy says she only knows how to be slayer by fighting evil "vampire by vampire" also relates to how she saves- or helps- people. One by one, a slow but steady process. But even Buffy can't save every one. It's a hard lesson to learn. The cold open also contains one of my favorite lines in the Buffyverse: "I should be at home in bed, cuddling up to my insomnia and worrying about how I'm going to mess up tomorrow." Oh, Buffy-adorably relatable Buffy❤️.

As others have already said, yes this is the first known use of 'Google' as a verb on a TV show. Brief history of Google, it's (semi) precursor was Web Crawler in 1996, then in 1997 word got out online that there was this new search engine in development and the domain name of 'Google' had been bought, then Google itself launched in 1998. Google as a verb was first coined in writing in 1998, and it also didn't take long for computer and internet folk back then to go from saying, 'I'll look that up on Google', to just, "I'll google that." I distinctly remember watching this episode and thinking. "Wow, did they just use google as a verb? They've finally caught up to internet culture!", but also "Wow, did they just use google as a verb? That is so much better than what they did in You Robot, I Jane". Also the fact that it's Willow, the computer nerd, who says it is just the cherry on top.

(edited to add: oops, I missed that someone had already mentioned this) You probably recognise Azura Sky (Cassie) from Grimm. She played Robin, the bird with the golden egg wesen, in season 1.

Claire Eyles

Slower episode yes, but I really like it. Watching it today is a very different experience because I recognized almost all of the non-main characters, whereas back then I only recognized one and that was Zachery Ty Bryan ("the douche" as Dak said). And this perfectly showcases my problem with having well-known actors or actresses guest appear in other shows: of course he was the bad guy. A few years before this episode originally aired he was one of the child stars in the hugely popular show Home Improvement that ran for 9 years and won 7 Primetime Emmys. If you're having someone with that background, whether they're actually good at acting or not, they will definitely play a major part in the episode - and it's usually a baddie in my experience. I'm a huge fan of British detective procedurals and while it doesn't seem to happen as often as it does in US television series', it still happens. Currently I'm watching the latest episodes of The Chelsea Detective and the new season of Unforgotten and when I spot a very familiar face, I think: Ah, that's the murderer. I'm not always right with the UK stuff, but my US batting average is excellent. That all being said, I thought ZTB did a very good job in the role. Anyone else think Cassie (Azura Skye) sounded like Fred from Grimm? Interestingly enough, she played Robin Steinkellner the Seltenvogel in Grimm 1x16. She still looks stunning. Thank you Dak!

Brian Dworak

The ending of this episode always makes me think of Angel's, "If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do." As Dawn said, it mattered because Buffy tried. Because she tried even when surrounded by people who were literally saying Cassie's life didn't matter. I think that really makes this one of the best, and also most underrated, episodes of the entire series.

El

As far as I know, this was the first mention of Google on a scripted television show, and the first use of "google" as a verb in any visual media, whatsoever.

Will Sofer

"If nothing you do matters then what you do is all that matters" Some guy on a different network said that ....also some French philosopher guy

Jon Freezin-Rain

Yeah 'way' - this is possibly the first use of the word 'Google' in a TV drama. Plus - for a long time - Cassie's website was a real thing.

Dave Ford

“She’ll tell you. Someday she’ll tell you”…idk why but that line ALWAYS gets me choked up. Also Casie….her story of what she wants to do before she dies knowing she will never get too do it…it’s gut wrenching too hear. I KNOW Buffy feels for her because Buffy was also prophesied to die when all she wanted was to go to her High School dance with her friends

Alex Prado

Maybe she based Sandy Rivers on someone who was in her life in high school...

Ed Green

Could the sitcom How I Met Your Mother be based on Willow's Doogie Howser fanfic, seeing as it stars Alyson and NPH?

Dyrla

For the non-boomers: Blue Clam Cult is a pun on the band Blue Öyster Cult.

Apetass

Cassie was briliantly portrayed. A different take on the question if you knew your end, what would you do. And even though she knew, she tried to comfort others regardless of it. The small twist with her father was nice as well to me. Showing buffy, who has a crappy father, that even though he says he is a crappy father, Cassie's father is trying. And then the scene after with Cassie really does get to me. It reminds me of a friend of mine in a way who sadly isn't here anymore. And then dawn at the end gets to me aswell, but I like her speach to Buffy. That what buffy did mattered, because she tried. This episode really isnt about the monster or the cult, its all about the characters. Dealing with loss, and how to cope with it. A minor episode, but a really good one imo.

Bart Aansorgh

Cassie is one of the most memorable minor characters from the show and a favourite of mine. Also, a great performance by Azura Skye.

Apetass

Heads up, same description for this and previous episode.

Trevor Niebergall

Fun Fact: when Willow asks about whether Buffy's Googled her, that was literally the first reference to Google on an American scripted primetime series. :-)

AlyAdmirer

Yes Dak, Buffy essentially coined the term "google" as a verb. Obviously it existed before this episode, but this was very much the first time that many people around the world heard it. And this is, in part, the reason why "googling" is now a common term. Pretty wild, isn't it?
