Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reaction 6x14

Please use one of the links at the bottom of this post to watch this video, thank you:

Hello All!

I saw Anya in a new light this episode, I wasn't a fan - I will put it down to wedding stresses but she gotta chill! It did feel nice to see Tara backing Willow which I'm sure was the point in Anya behaving so aggressively. Poor Dawn being so lonely too, be careful what you wish for though I guess.

Hope you enjoy the reaction folks. Have a lovely week everyone! Thank you for the constant love & support!

Much love

Dakara x

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reaction 6x14

Comments

Sorry Dakara but I'm with Anya . Thanks for nothing Willow ,everybody might be killed but because she has no self control she wouldn't help save them .

Jim Greer

Figured I'd give some of my thoughts on this episode, and the season in general. Sorry for not commenting as much lately. Anya did seem to be different, but I didn't take it as negatively. It didn't shock me as much. I was thinking that she was pretty stressed out and just having no filter, as usual. I also thought that she was harboring some unresolved issues with Willow. Back when I originally watched this season, I was continually wondering why no one ever talked about what Willow did. What she did really affected everyone and was such a serious breach of trust. She showed no care about people's autonomy, just cared about what she wanted. She thought nothing of messing with people's memories. No one seems to think it's important to talk to her about that. They all just want to move on. There's the addiction to magic part, but then there's the other part that can't be blamed on being addicted. It's about how she treated people. It definitely had be feeling differently about her. Willow wasn't the Willow I'd fallen in love with anymore. She didn't seem to really care about people like I thought she did. It was pretty easy for her to play with the people in the bar when she and Amy had their night on the town. Willow did show any care about what she was making those people do. That stayed with me. So her feeling bad and crying didn't get the sympathy for me that it normally would. It didn't feel like it was coming from a true place of feeling bad for what she did. More that she was feeling sorry for herself. Wow. That was a rant! That's what happens when a show ruins a character for me! So, it was something that I had to deal with in this season of the show. I needed the other characters to get Real with Willow about how crappy what she did to them was.

I have only one thing to say: Sassy Tara rules!! THE END!

Dawn and Buffy are so close to feeling the same and neither realizes it because the communication has gotten so bad. I actually don't think Anya is out of character. I think we just have not seen her truly scared and vulnerable alot. Everytime she becomes desperate for a way out of it. Anya has always feared death and her own mortality since becoming human. She ran away in season 3 finale. She was very nervous about the fight in season 5 finale and tried suggesting things in a desperate attempt to live. It brings out some of her negative traits like her no filter lack of social awareness and her blunt attitude. Willow and dawn just happen to be the targets. All the characters have flaws (except Tara she is just better than everyone especially this episode lol) and season 6 really lays them on the table in full display.

Now this is a good episode. I love how they did the flow of information is this one. Slowly they find out how Dawn felt, but it maybe didn't really feel real to them right away. But then Halfrek showing up puts it into perspective how bad Dawn really felt. Dawn's stealing was a cry for attention as well, so hopefully that will stop. I always thought about that when Dawn was called to the councilor. Would she be of two minds about it all the time? Hoping no-one finds out, but then also hoping that someone did find out, because that means they paid attention to her. Anya did feel off a bit during the episode, i always think that it was mostly as a plot device to give a frame for Tara to defend Willow, idk. Tara defending Willow did give me the feels. Just love them. Also, Tara's comments to spike were golden :D. Looking forward to the next one.

Anya tends to freak out whenever her mortality is brought to her attention. Back in Season 5 she freaked out when she hurt her arm telling Xander she was dying and might only have 50 odd years to live. Being trapped and suffering from claustrophobia she was freaking out and not being herself. With Willow as others have mentioned it's not uncommon for people to keep a small amount of something when quitting. I kept two cigarettes when I gave up smoking so I wouldn't get "The Panic" when the shops were closing which would lead me to giving in and smoking. Halfrek is Cecily the one William(Spike) used to write poetry about when he was human. I didn't realise when I watched it the first time it took me a few rewatches to remember her and why she and Spike had a moment. Also non Buffy Question. It's getting way to hot here in London so is that AC unit behind you any good and if so what brand is it?

Collinson

Aye. I kept a sealed pack of baccy for over 6 months when I quit smoking.

To add to what Claire Eyles said, Anya is, or was, the same thing as Halfrek, which means she had teleportation powers that mean she would never have ended up trapped like this before being human. Up until now, the closest she's come to this kind of situation was in Tabula Rasa, with the "Loan Shark," but they weren't trapped for as long, she had no memory, which means she didn't know she used to have her powers, and Giles was there, which probably made everything feel easier even if they didn't understand why. Suddenly, Anya can't just poof out of the house, and Willow, at least in theory, has a way out. When someone is reacting to the panic of a phobia, they can lose all sense of rationale, and in that situation, it can feel like someone who has the answer is holding out on them. You don't have the logic to think why they are not helping. With Xander, I think he meant what he said in a supportive way. Like, she seemed to be the only way out, and he was saying, look, we'll help you, it'll be okay. It's the reaction of a person who, even though he knows she has a problem with addiction, doesn't truly understand how it works, or that you can't have/do just one. He also backed off as soon as she explained. Also, also, he can't have loved knowing how scared and panicked Anya was. He should be protecting Willow, but he should also protect the woman he loves.

Raven Dark

Side note: Willow keeping a few things so she didn't freak out and could put her mind at ease and concentrate on her recovery, is so damn accurate that it actually makes me wonder if someone on the writing team had direct experience with addiction.

Claire Eyles

I think Anya, being a 1000 year old formerly immortal being, has a lot more fear of things like ageing and mortality than the rest of the scoobies. In season 5 we saw her getting freaked out about her own mortality when she had a dislocated shoulder, during her and Xander's engagement party she spoke about cramming in as much marital bliss as possible before they withered and died, and one of the underlying themes in her 'Once More With Feeling' song was her fear of ageing and abandonment. Under these circumstances I think it's understandable that she would've freaked out when she found herself trapped in a house waiting to slowly die, and also being prevented from living the life she wants with Xander. Notice as well that whilst the other scoobies were scared, Anya was the only one who seemed truly panic stricken.

Claire Eyles

I'm quite surprised Dak didn't catch on to that being the Spike champ that she is lol

The actress who played Halfrek also played Cecily in 5x07--the woman who rejects human Spike/William and says "You're beneath me". ❤️
