Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reaction 6x06

Comments

Aaah, its good to be back. I think Willow is still Willow. The power's gone to her head a bit. But willow has had these moments a bitin the past, though ofcourse not this excessive. I think a large part also plays that with her feeling powerfull, and remembering how she was. I agree with most you said about it though. Buffy is for sure shuffling her responsibilities to Giles, and it will remain to be seen how long that will keep up. I know a lot of people hate on Dawn, but i quite like the character. As you said, she's growin, and doing so in a very difficult situation, where she lost her mum, and buffy in a short time. Only to get buffy back after 3 months, but then Buffy is kind of not there. We'll see in the commin episodes i guess :)

Literally holding my breath for the rest of the season.

Dak: Old men are supposed to just be cute, not scare you half to death." Buffy writers: *shaking heads* Five plus years of this and she's learned nothing. *punches uncute Willow button*

The "He is HOT" comment was awesome...lol love it.

An episode I really enjoy, but also one that makes me feel uncomfortable at times. But let's start at the beginning. The wedding announcement scene was very sweet and I really liked the reactions from the other Scoobies. Fast forward to Anya's speech and the look on Xander's face changing to one of nervousness and freaking out was funny. I love Anya, by the way. As I've said more than once... 🙄 Now let me explain my uneasiness: Michelle Trachtenberg was 15 when this was shot, but as a freshman in High School most kids are 14. So here's a 14-year-old having her first kiss (awesome), but it's with a guy that looks like he's in college. At least they were just kissing normally; I'm sure that was because of Michelle's age. I had that fatherly feeling of wanting to protect my child and meeting her first boyfriend while cleaning my gun. Oh, and why does Buffy look about 16 in this one? Probably just me. "Willow is not Willow right now." EXACTLY! Willow's growing use of magic is increasingly worrisome. One nice touch I really appreciated regarding Willow and Tara's various interactions on the subject was Tara's stutter returning momentarily. She's scared. As we've seen over the last little while, Willow is getting very dark in ways. Too Dark, Willow. Random, but the use of the song "Body of Binky" by Coinmonster made me laugh. I've mentioned before how the music of that era is easily identified just by the sound, and this is a perfect example. Not a bad song, although it's not in a genre that's my particular taste. Comments on comments: "He's so hot..." Dak probably had Billy Idol posters on her bedroom walls back in the day. 😉 "GILF"?! DaKARa JAYNE! 😮 ❌❌❌ Thanks for the reaction! Bloody brilliant, Dak.

Willow has always gone to magic for any problems she's having.. remember her de-lusting spell? She has also used/tried to use spells without others knowing, again, the de-lusting spell. The stronger she gets the more dangerous her spells are but this definitely isn't unusual behaviour for her! Great reaction as always 😍

CeNedra

Well put. There's also the incident with Veruca where she almost casts that spell on Oz to magically override his feelings. And she reaches for magic to fix her grief after that breakup. There's a bit of a recency bias with longer shows, where viewers tend to forget about a character's earlier red flags because enough time has passed that we either assume that they've outgrown those bad traits or we ignore them because it makes us uncomfortable to like someone who does bad things. Willow isn't the only character on this show with demonstrated red flags that get ignored because they're otherwise charming or charismatic.

He's always just kinda been along for the ride lmao the first real decision he made for their relationship without her pushing was the proposal... which was super cute, but did come during a time of duress from Glory.

Bisibia

You can go all the way back to Lover's Walk in season 3 to see Willow looking for the quick magic fix rather than dealing with her problems, it's totally a Willow way to behave. There's a word I wont explicitly use for forcing your will onto somebody else and taking something from them, her doing that to Tara is a real low point for her as far as I'm concerned. What I find interesting with Willow is how she refers to her old "geek" self as almost a completely different person, she talks down about the way she was like it isn't even her. Her inferiority complex is clear from season one (cordelia, Buffy etc.) so now she has power (literally given life back to Buffy), I don't find it surprising she would let it go to her head.

Dak: "What's in the pot? It's usually feet..." Me: "... this is the wrong show for Foot Soup!" :-)

So many secrets. We have Tara now being manipulated magically into forgetting a fight just so Willow can avoid conflict, Xander hiding his fears, Dawn hiding her rebellions acts, and Giles at the end not saying something when buffy pass of the responsibility of dawn to him. You mentioned a longer engagement I think Xander was trying to do that but anya has always rushed their relationship. Remember last season she wanted the apartment so badly and even before when they went to prom she aggressively pushed their relationship forward even before he knew they were in one. They have always been at different levels but he always seems happy after she gets him there he just needs to get over the initial fear. This episode he did a big step in telling everyone about the engagement.

Christopher simeon

Yeah, agreed. I know what Dak means but every time I hear 'Willow isn't Willow,' I'm like .....mmmm, I think Willow is currently *extremely* Willow, it's her alone, without allowing outside influence on her thoughts/actions. Her own superiority/inferiority complex, natch, is isolating her. After resurrecting someone? In her mind, she can't do wrong anymore. She no longer has uncertainty or lack of belief in herself holding her back from her worst impulses

Kate

I remember being shocked Dawn hadn’t kissed anyone before that. I had my first proper kiss at 11, and most people in my school were young teens or earlier lol. (Maybe it’s just a very British thing for an early first kiss?)

Sharon Owen

Willow… her magical power is really going to her head. Who would have thought she’d ever do a forgetting spell on Tara… but willow uses magic for a lot of things that don’t go her way… almost did a spell on Veruca and Oz, then there’s the spell where buffy/spike got engaged… then when she went after Glory… The first fight they had about magic was right before Glory took Tara’s mind. So it’s been brewing for a while it seems.

So by now it's pretty obvious that both Giles and Tara have had good reason to be concerned with Willow's use of magic. The thing is though, this is Willow, or at least the hints of a destination she's already been heading towards for several seasons. It now remains me to be seen whether she can pull herself back from the edge, or whether her friends can step in in time to stop her from heading down a bad road.

Awkward kiss moments, oof had a few of those. My first proper kiss? I was in grade 4 Primary School (8 years old in Australia), it was in some schoolyard bushes, we had lookouts (so the teacher's didn't bust us), an audience waiting their turn in the kissing bush, and I think I almost devoured the poor guy's entire face. And of course in keeping with true Primary school romance tradition, a fellow classmate passed on a message the next day that I was dropped - cue the dramatic 8 year old's version of "thou hast cleft my heart in twain". LOL

Giles kicking ass like a true GILF - G = grandpa or Giles?
