Big Darla episode and I really enjoyed it, sounds dark saying that because it is a heavy episode but I just think the actors played it really well & Darla is going on such an interesting journey. There is so much history between them, I feel that when they're together.

Quickest explanation of Angel's response to Darla: He's still the demon that had all those experiences... he just feels bad about them now. But the memories, the enjoyment he got, he still remembers what that felt like.

2022-11-11 18:54:56 +0000 UTCAn advantage of Angel being in his own show is that it allows greater opportunity to explore what it means to be a vampire, especially one with a soul. Darla, being a human who used to be a vampire, gives us another vantage point. And all of it is a metaphor on the human condition. Angel pointed out to Darla that her soul meant she'd be feeling the guilt of her previous actions (though we've seen plenty of humans in the show whose souls don't seem to have that effect) and that his lack of a soul when Angelus meant he was never truly happy. But it seems he might be forgetting that that's not a soul's only effect. Vampire Darla 'loved' Angelus - to the extent she was capable of that emotion. Now she has a soul, will she be repuled by Angelus or will her soul brighten the flame of that love? Her comment that she still wants him makes you pause. (People have done terrible things in the name of love. Like all emotions love is not purely good or evil.)
