Squeals of young children, mortal and not, echoed in the yard. A horde ran around a recently constructed play set. Summer was on its way, and the Minor Goddesses of Olympus had a small gathering scheduled. Thalia, against her will, was chosen as hostess for the day by Hebe—since she was the unofficial ‘head’ Minor Goddess, as she liked to remind everyone.
“What’cha got there, Buzzer?” Thalia asked when she caught a faint flicker of something shiny in her son’s hand.
“A knife!” Kawaki cried jubiously, oblivious of the danger in the way that only children can be.
“Oh, that’s ni—What?! No!” Thalia tore away from the table and gave chase to her child. Divine or not, catching a child in a game of chase was a challenge.
