How the fuck did they “isolate” China on the world stage??

William

Alexander is always a great guest, funny and informative.

Percy Plump

Boys, we need your opinion on the new Netflix show American Primeval.

Abdulla Faraz

The glen Coulthard book is great - would also reccomend clearing the plains

laihall

The funniest shit about that frum article is that even taylor Sheridan makes a gesture to Canada’s genocide in 1923 when the adult crow guy tells the girl “canadas worse” when she suggests fleeing there

laihall

My boss sat me down yesterday and told me he loved landman. I am so ready for that ep lmao

Dingus

It would be incredible to just make this a Taylor Sheridan podcast for the next 4 years. No announcement of any change. Don’t even acknowledge it. We’ve always been at war with east Asia.

To add to the list of based Fighting Whities, there’s the Poles that defected from the French and fought alongside the Haitian slaves. Some 500 Poles settled after the war and were legally considered Black, which is pretttttttty kewl.

Luke S

thank you 🙏

Sai

Huh?

William

Well now hold on there for just a minute; as a cishet white male, I know things have been tough, but let’s think about this a little before we go abolishing this and that. I’d also like to acknowledge the land I’m commenting from was once inhabited by the Miami peoples

William

Hey what’s that book about Tecumseh Terrence is always talking about

Shelby Lowrie

Extend the UP into Canada. My friend Jeff is excited because he can’t get into Canada since he got a DUI.

Luke S

Where will Great Michigan end?! ;)

Emily Epstein (unrelated to the bad guy)

Alexander Aviña was an awesome guest & this may be my most favorite episode. The author of the article covered in the last third of the episode just fkng irked me. The article is 100% projection. The author -Frum? Walking dog now)- is avoiding the obvious question: what IS a genocide, then? He goes on to imply indigenous communities couldn't manufacture biological magic against foreign viruses and/or infections implies a parity between indigenous people and "bugs." This is the exact comparison German Nazis made about Jews. Neither is excusable and it's incredibly disappointing to see a fellow Jew tow the line when it's quite likely his ancestors endured similar treatment. Just fkng depressing, honestly Hiteous.

Emily Epstein (unrelated to the bad guy)

Near the hour mark Professor Avina mentions the “why it happened question” which is an interesting thread; is there a book or paper that explores this idea?

Hxp

If anybody asks all those redacteds are “vote harder”

Chapo has always branded nu metal as right wing

The article towards the end was infuriating. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the utter futility of debating and arguing with these fucking idiot slavers bc at the end of it all their argument is always “Yeah well I don’t even know how to to read.” They don’t know anything. They don’t understand history or humanity and they don’t want to. There’s nothing you can do to make them be decent except [REDACTED] [REDACTED] Luigi [REDACTED].

i would argue that you can actually split suburbs into two categories, one predominantly urban (think northern virginia) and one predominantly rural (think exurbs close to natural amenities). the political split between those two follows what you’d expect re: elections for their city/country counterparts — exurbs love trump, NVA and DC whites are a swing constituency

synthia plat

There’s also a weird thing in American football where ex AFL and rugby players are becoming specifically punters though, I read a thing about it

Yani x

Yyyyyes I think?? I was still in primary school. I’ve moved so I’m happy to say I did live in Canberra lmao so if anywhere would

Yani x

Wait… so you did land acknowledgments during the Howard years??? Where do you live? Don’t answer that obvi! And small note: we haven’t successfully exported AFL anywhere so far!

Maybe we get a boogeyman either way but what I’m saying is we are making ourselves a more dreadful ghoul.

BookMisser

At the end of the day we are pulling emissions down everywhere to the current rural/urban average followed by going lower in the following decades or the boogeyman is right behind us and I genuinely don’t know how bad things will get even under an ideal social structure. We can’t eat money and we can’t buy off the mud that might crush us.

BookMisser

Is the split town & country? I think we bifurcate communities into urban and rural when we have three types now (urban, suburban and rural). Rural USA communities live far apart but also don’t use fuel excessively (maybe bc they don’t expect the same level of convenience as people in cities and they bundle trips?). Urban communities travel shorter distances often in very efficient ways. The one we leave out (suburban) is the one with 4X the per capita emissions of the other two. https://coolclimate.berkeley.edu/maps

BookMisser

If you look at habitability projections it would make more “sense” to invade Canada as a land grab than to invade Mexico. Invade Canada and blanket it with subdivisions.

BookMisser

Bring him back for your Taylor Sheridan episode

daniel

A place that never attempted to hold itself accountable will always continue to whitewash and infantilize its history. Great ep guys

Isaiah Charles

Phenomenal episode once again, guys. It's always a joy to hear Alexander 😊

Danielle

Alexander Aviña my personal goat

Jacob Nathan

Got the t-shirt in the mail. Thanks, Tom!

hatin' in da holler

I want him and jimmy Falun gong to do a year zero episode about the film sicaro

daniel

Gotta recommend The True Flag by Stephen Kinzer after this ep. He provides a ton of evidence that our settler colonial roots provided 19th century imperialists justification for all kinds of International interventions. Teddy Roosevelt comes out looking pretty bad!

Carolyn

Sir this is the comments section please stop raping that straw man

For the Letterkenny fans- you can find a photograph of the actress who plays Tanis as a toddler being held by her older sister; while the older sister is being literally bayoneted by a Canadian soldier. This is a color photograph from when we were alive, of a Letterkenny actress screaming as her sister is stabbed with the bayonet of a rifle James Baldwin said he watched a Western as a kid and thought immediately "I'm the Indian, got it." My New Year's resolution is to get serious about learning spanish. I took one and two in high school, so I have a extremely simple, emergency levels grasp of it. Listening to Norteña music and watching The Office episodes with Spanish audio and subs. (I also work with like a dozen native Spanish speakers)

So it's really "Terançe" ?

Luke T

Settler colonialism yet again. Bad? Yes. The original sin and fountain of every single bad thing? No. Harken back to Terrence spouting that’s “what’s wrong with Kansas”. It’s not the simple boilerplate for everything that you don’t like.

Jim McKenna

Not a bit. Sauced Tom Hanks

BookMisser

Somehow I got a picture of Fidel in my head with a coconut bra and a Hula skirt. But it felt good, it felt right, and he’s a man in my eyes.

I'll just go ahead and be the guy that points out that liberal democracy is a lie on top of bourgeois dictatorship. It's ok to shit talk it because it is an evil system, symbiotic with capitalism, spawning war and cooking the planet.

Sai

Now that I know Tarence "is french", I'll be picturing him looking like Louis XIII from "The Devils" (1971) at all times.

Jesper Ohlsson

Stone Mountain where they carved images of losers into the rock?

Dr. Alex is a top tier guest, but I can’t give him props since he works for a competitor

William

You'd be taking it easy on them.

The Other Slavery: The Uncovered Story of Indian Enslavement in America by Andrés Reséndez

Marcus

i read Tarence’s article & i wonder if the most widespread ideological distinction across town vs. country in white America is the contradiction between man’s law vs. God’s law. i moved to Asheville right before the flood, and there’s something about being vulnerable to the forces of nature that gives you a healthy skepticism of human institutions which claim omnipotence. by contrast the cities, as the fortresses of the Big Bourgeoisie, have the infrastructure and social-reproductive forces to fully envelop you in man’s law, to convince you that God has been killed. imo it points to a serious deficit of effective liberation theology aimed at Europeans and their descendents. we are living in the ruins of a Christianity mutated through empire and colonization, first internal to Europe through the suppression of pagan traditions, then externally through settler colonialism & empire

It looks like the papier-mâché dolls from the running of the jew in the first Borat movie.

Love Aviña as a guest, he should be the 4th trillbilly

If joke Sullivan and Anthony bitchface deserve anything, it is for their souls to not know peace for the rest of eternity. For the rest of their lives, I’d settle for them to endure ice water being dripped onto their foreheads for hours, in-between waterboarding with Kentucky post flood river water, while being violently interrogated for information they can’t give

William

the one sweater I have that's slimming

That statue of NBF was a truly bizarre piece of art. The proportions were goofy as fuck.

Shelby Lowrie

It’s like the one, nice set of clothes that you feel confident in, that you always wear when you have to dress up for something

William

The way Tom feels about dick Spencer is the way that I feel about blinken. There is no torture that is good enough for that sack of shit

William

It was so crazy hearing Tom on The Guys podcast with Tom Walker from bigsofttitty.png. Two of my favorite Toms.

Grant

Frankly I hope it's a bit, that profile pic is hilarious if you read the reply with that in mind.

AL

We’ve been doing land acknowledgements (or an analogue) in Australia (well where I grew up) as far back as like, 2002/2003. Is it a better cultural export than Football Punters?

Yani x

I was confused, too. Haha I guess? Will patiently await Jim McKenna's *Return with Honor*...

Lars

Does Bruce Fischer listen to the Trillbillies? 🤔

Lars

Great episode and i think one big takeaway is that its very important to support aes states even when we dont fully agree with them or every single thing they do. Cuba, china, venezuela, honduras, and more are all working with each other to resist the usa in the ways that they can. Very different projects but we must support them. We must learn from them rather than trying to tell them how to do socialism. They are objectively further ahead than we are.

Wayfinder Radio

Honestly can't tell if this is a bit.

AL

What a fucking liar. Tom Hanks well did not narrate the Vietnam war documentary. At no time was it said anything about good intentions.

Jim McKenna

LOL thought it was ghostbusters at first, was sitting here imagining clay higgins louisiana cornball ass saying the ghostbusters did jan 6 in his goofy accent

The True Horror

Going to be sweet next year when J6 is a national holiday and we get the day off

David Frum is like if OJ was profoundly lame but still oddly tolerated by polite society. "Oh look, here's canadian I Definitely Did It on tv again, yapping away."

Jesper Ohlsson

The white man yearns evermore for a slur to call his own. Wouldst thou not do him this kindness?

I would be attacking the capital today, but alas, I'm snowed in. 🤷‍♂️
