This is in reference to Friday's show. I agree the risk of a larger war is a real possibility, simply because the Biden team's "strategy" is to pour fuel on the fire by not restraining Israel's violence in the occupied territories. The Biden people think that a show of force will deter countries in the region -- e.g. sending in aircraft carriers and mobilizing forces in the region -- but I think the bigger problem is likely to come from the deaths of thousands of Palestinian civilians as it relates to our other allies in the region. e.g. Israel's actions are putting the political leadership in these countries in an impossible position of trying to turn a blind eye to the murder of thousands of civilians while also maintaining diplomatic relations with Israel. I don't think this will continue to be tenable if there is a ground invasion of Gaza. As far as it relates to the U.S., I think the American public is going to have a very limited appetite for another war in the Middle East. Biden right now is starting where George W. Bush was in 2007. It is hard to see his popularity going back above 40%. Only 20 million people bothered to watch his speech this week, compared to 26 million for his first State of the Union, nearly 40 million for Trump's 2019 address to congress, and 62 million for George W. Bush's State of the Union in 2003. However, despite everything, I tend to agree with the long-term optimism. Think things could be pretty miserable for those of us stuck in the transitional period, but eventually things find a new equilibrium. As far as the Iraq War goes in 2003, yes there were millions of protestors, but Bush also had an 80% approval rating in April 2003. 73% of Americans expressed support for the Iraq War prior to the invasion. Right now Americans are divided in arming Israel and a large majority support a ceasefire in Gaza.

I wanna thank the Trillbilly crew for making me feel less insane with their coverage of the Gaza crisis. Seriously, I don’t know what I would do.
