Fun fact, freon (for refrigeration) was invented by Thomas Midgley Jr, while Dr. Salk developed the Polio vaccine. My mom was a recipient of the earliest wave of the Polio vaccine as a child, which is why I know that; Sharing some family history there, but my point is that Thomas MidgleyJr. was actually an evil motherfucker who also invented Tetraethyl Lead, the shit used in leaded gas which exposed everyone to toxic ambient levels of lead until it was fully phased out in the USA in 1997. For real. Also, Freon and Freon-like chemicals are all ozone depletion contributors, so there's also that, although we need to refrigerate food, it's just that nobody has figured out a better substance to do it than shit that depletes the ozone layer. So that's an ongoing battle, really.
