Buffy not staking Spike has always made sense to me. You can’t say that she could have easily killed him, since we have seen over and again Buffy and villains get out of such predicaments. She had the position of dominance and she let him run away because there were so many innocent people around (a lot of them children) that she was protecting. She won the battle. What was going on behind the scenes, with writers and executives, is neither here nor there – it may be interesting but has nothing to do with the story as we have it. Yeah, like many things, it requires suspension of disbelief but isn’t a big stretch, by any means. I do wish you had seen Giles when Willow entered the library. Good reaction, though, as always.
