Hello All!
Today is a BIG DAY! We get to start our new journey together with Buffy The Vampire Slayer!! I watched this pilot awhile back now but really enjoyed it. I truly hope you all enjoy this show along with me? My gut instinct is that I'm gonna fall in love with this show - hopefully I'm right!

I finally did it.... 1st episode of Buffy down. After So Many years of thinking about it. I have to say.... This was So Much more fun watching with Dakara than last time. (I did watch the 1st 1 or 2 episodes many years ago myself but didn't get into it. It's a bit old for my taste). I think I'm really going to enjoy watching this here.

I'll be going home next weekend,so it isn't critical if I can't watch it right now. Just wondering if there's a way to increase the volume now? Thank you.

I didn't make it all the way through the series on my first watch so I'm hoping to stick it out for the long haul with you. Loved your reaction to this pilot epsiode! It was so fun to watch this with you. It's going to be funny watching you react to the second episode looking so different with your fringe haha.

Buffy & Angel was one of my favorite series and I cannot wait for the next reaction and to see you spiral into loving the series too. ٩(^‿^)۶

2021-10-12 17:15:41 +0000 UTCIn case no-one has said this yet, the Angel series premiere takes place after the Season 3 finale of Buffy, and should ideally be watched after the Buffy Season 4 premiere. That's when they originally aired - Buffy from 1997 to 2003, and Angel from 1999 to 2004. There are watch order guides on the Internet, such as the Slayalive one.

2021-10-12 13:51:31 +0000 UTCI remember giving Buffy a try and thinking, watching the pilot : This is SOOOO cheesy!! Why people are so over the moon for this show? But then, I was so invested I was crying in the season 1 finale. I'm glad I stuck with BtVS and I have no doubt Dakara will enjoy it all (she is so much more forgiving then I am on some show stuff.)

Season 1 is short - it aired in January as oppose to the usual Autumn slot because it was a replacement for a cancelled show, which is why it's only 12 episodes in the first season. Little fun fact for you there. I also love Julie Benz - I love how she's the first character and vampire we see. I loved her as Rita too! (and she was in the Faith ep of Supernatural)

It's been 12 years and I still haven't found a show I love this much in any genre. I say this not to set expectations - we're all different - but simply to express my delight that you're watching it.

2021-10-12 08:57:07 +0000 UTCI already watched on the pilot tier but happy you are starting this journey. Buffy is a very symbolic show and the monsters she fights are metaphors for many things we face as teenagers growing up. While the special effects maybe dated the story still holds up.

And I'm torn because on one hand I really want you to enjoy and embrace the ultimate cheesiness of S1 because it's enjoyable despite not being good lol On the other it's not exactly representative of the rest of the show, few glimpses of future brilliance aside. Passion of the Nerd (the ultimate BtVS guide on YT) recs skipping most of S1... I'm here for all of it tho, silliness and terrible special effects included and tbf we drunk watched Cats during the first lockdown and bad special effects of late 90s are less scary lol. Ok I'm shutting up now and off to watch (I wasn't in the pilot tier so missed this when you posted first time). ETA: Oh, you only watched 1x01. It's generally recommended to watch the first 2 episodes together as a pilot. I'm surprised you didn't know Tony Head (Giles) or maybe you do and just didn't comment on it. He just seems like such a staple of UK entertainment. Regarding the dialogue it's called Buffy Speak. It was basically created by this show and as such unlike other teen shows that are using slang of their time it doesn't sound outdated. Similarly to e.g. Clueless, creating its own distinctive language making it seem more timeless. Buffy pioneered a lot of tropes that will be fun to point out later on.
