Corwin my camera guy has helped my out a lot over the past year. He has really wanted to learn and i put him on all of the shit jobs. Really wanted to show him that hammering is just a small part of this. He has been allowed to do everything but hammer. He sanded until he was good enough to do something else. Then he cut spacers until he was good enough to do something else. I am not easy to please. I broke a lot of them and told him to start over. Then i taught him how to heat treat. How to finish. How to handle. How to stich a sheath. How to dye. How to handle a draw knife. Finally ive taught him how to sharpen. Rigth now he is just my shop helper but he has impressed the hell out of me. So i got him one of my fav hammers and punches from brent Bailey. As far as im concerned he is the best tool maker. And im going to go and pick up his apron i ordered from a local shop. Then finally after a year of slogging though the rough parts, he will get to forge his first knife with his hammer. Everything will be his start. Im very proud of him. And if this just stays a hobby for him thats fine, he has the mentality and that cant be learned
