They live in a fishbowl with sharks constantly circling. That’s what I think every time I read a chapter like this. Never anonymous, constantly under scrutiny. And glad I don’t have to live like that. There were inklings of Connors having a conscience in chapter 2, but just enough foreshadowing to make you wonder if it would actually surface. Now, can they legally press the rag for access to the pictures? Civilian law suites have lower threshold for discovery than criminal. I’m sure you’re doing your research. Great writing as always.

2025-07-31 12:01:24 +0000 UTCI just reread chapter 2 and you have nothing in there describing what was done with the image files after Valerie went through the thumbnails on Drew’s laptop (it does suggest they look on both the photographers’ laptops rather than on Valerie’s. Therefore plenty of space (considering The Watcher owns the rights to all the images) to suggest that the full memory card contents were downloaded to Valerie’s laptop or provided to The Watcher. This is a long winded way to say that you could argue that someone else at the tabloid has a conscience as well and leaked them potentially giving Drew and break.

2025-07-30 19:59:50 +0000 UTCI was thinking and hoping this was what was going to happen. You subtlety foreshadowed this during the NZ chapters with little hints of Drew growing a conscience. I think it works and fits with what you have written so far. Great angle of bringing in the legal ownership of the images to not just make this a simple solution to it all. I’m wondering if these images can be leaked and Drew is only one of the suspects. All depends on if you can say that the Watcher has all the RAW files (even the unused ones). I’d have to look back on if you wrote anything about them only downloading the picks (the photos that fit their narrative) off Drew’s laptop or memory cards.
