I would just like to say that I am not writing this with the 20/20 hindsight of having already lived through it. The way Jake feels is pretty much how I felt back in those days, as they were occurring, including the frustration at others. In any case, I'm not going full on political here, just describing a moment in history that shapes someone's views. I will not be dwelling on this subject or preaching and the entire second half of the chapter is all band stuff and KVA business, and shit like that. And, of course, Celia's boobs feature prominently. Let me know how I'm doing.

Great chapter, but Matt's reaction at the end of the chapter seems wrong. I know they are "growing up", but Matt admitting he was wrong and saying things like he is gratefull for everything jake has done for him and that he did not think the thing threw seems uncharacteristic.

2024-07-21 10:17:45 +0000 UTCUnfortunately, that incident happened in the first Gulf War and was written about in real life before the events we're now discussing even occurred. It also took place in a different universe as I don't want my Intemp characters inconvenienced by a comet strike and the ending of their civilization. I don't think they would do too well up on that ocean cliff house when the Tsunami rolls in. That incident in Aftermath, by the way, is based on a real Apache pilot's story from that conflict.

When you were describing the details of what was happening on the ground in the Iraqi war, I was wondering if we were going to get a description of a friendly fire incident, in which a certain US helicopter pilot drifted back over the Iraqi border due to the wind and the lack of GPS in those days and took out a line of our own tanks. I tried to find your description of that incident in Aftermath, and now I have gotten sucked back into that story also. It would have been interesting to see your stories briefly intersect.

2024-05-05 07:38:33 +0000 UTCVery little oil from Middle East is imported into the US. It had to do with Iraq invading Kuwait and then wanting to retaliate for the Twin Towers. The occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan was the biggest mistake. Should have bombed them back into the Middle Ages and declared a victory. Then resume short term air bombing or Marine shelling every time a terrorist or similar attack takes place. A la Israel.
