INTEMPERANCE V - Chapter 24, Turning the Tables

The Kingsleys have strange visitors in the early morning hours. And then, it's time to negotiate with National again. The gloves come off. As always, let me know how I'm doing. The first part of this chapter perhaps does not advance the storyline all that much, but it is a slice of the life that the Kingsleys lead and I thought it important to include it. Tell me what you think.

An excellent chapter. I liked the early-morning 'hippie attack' - it was good for a few chuckles. Their early use of the internet in research is well done, and a very Nerdly solution to the problem. Well written, and well conceptualized.

Yeah, I guess I did misread what Pauline said. "...At that point, we will enter good faith negotiations for a touring contract for Matt and Celia. And when we do so, please keep in mind that we are perfectly free to sign with any other entity for such a contract and that with Celia, we do not even have to pay you for the performance rights.” I stumbled over that "that". I imagined it to imply "and that *along with* Celia." But it threw me for loop until I reread it a bit more carefully. My bad.

I'm not sure if you are misreading something or not, but Matt does not get the performance rights for his previous material. If KVA signs with anyone but National for touring, they will have to pay for those performance rights. If they sign with National, they will not, which gives National an edge in negotiations. There is nothing in the MD&P contract about performing rights and the issue becomes separate now that the MD&P is separated from the touring contract.

I guess I missed something about the MD&P contract they signed. Why does Matt get the performance rights for his previous material? Wouldn't that be in the tour contract and not in the MD&P?
