Doug on Demand - Episode 7

I'm pleased to share our 7th Doug on Demand. We gathered on Mother's Day to spin some tunes, and it was again a very enjoyable time.

If you want to be a part of these zoom calls and have one of your songs played, become a Patron at the Council of Dougs or Doug's Angels tier. Enjoy!

I have to say that was the wrong way to introduce JMJ. Live JMJ is about spectacle and crowd-pleasing. Amped up drum tracks and a more limited soundscape due to what can be done live. Doug says "That didn't go as far as I expected" and the answer to that is go to the albums. Oxygene and then Equinox are the way to start -- and they're long song material as each album is just one flowing piece. And despite what I said about live performances, the Jean Michel Jarre In Your Living Room performance of Oxygene is amazing. Four guys and at least 20 old synthesizers. Worth a watch.

I’m glad you finally got a turn, Don! When all else fails, turn off and back on again. Works great. 😉

Oh, good heavens. Dr. Doug’s first exposure to Jarre and neither Eusebio nor I were there to elaborate! I do wish Dr. Doug heard Oxygéne first; in my opinion Equinox IV pales in comparison. But, what’s important about Jarre’s Concerts In China in 1981 is that he was the first Western musician invited to play in Communist China since the country turned communist. Plus, even though they performed in the most modern auditoriums in the country, the documentary this is from shows that Jarre’s roadies had to massively jury rig much of the power to pull the concerts off. It was an incredible feat, and while I feel the music on the documentary doesn’t do Jarre’s actual compositions justice, it is a fascinating watch. Hopefully, Dr. Doug will get to the EPL of Oxygéne sooner rather than later to get a complete Jarre experience.
