USPCC

Feel free to correct me if you see it differently, but I currently feel that USPCC decks are becoming increasingly rare on the custom playing card market, thanks to printers in Asia. It's possible that I have also contributed a little to this situation with my WJPC decks, but the whole situation gives me even more reason to print the Black Roses Hotel Playing Cards with USPCC again.

With the current decline in the hype around custom playing cards, I also can't predict how many people will support my next project, which makes printing with USPCC a risky endeavor. It's more expensive and I'm forced to order more than I can sell during the Kickstarter campaign.

The Black Roses Hotel Playing Cards are going to be produced with premium thin crushed paper, traditionally cut of course. I want everyone to see that I don't skimp on quality. It's actually a given for me, but I've never really properly promoted the key features that make a USPCC even better. That's why I decided to make these features also visible on the tuck box.

But the best thing is, the deck will only cost €10. The price I started with on Kickstarter in 2017. Although everything got more expensive to produce, I want everyone to be able to afford the deck. Due to the current exchange rate, the deck should only cost $11 at the moment, making it the most affordable Black Roses deck to date.

I would like to launch the Kickstarter campaign at the beginning of August, but I can't say anything more specific at the moment.

Thanks for reading.

Much love

Daniel

Do what you have to do. Your supporters will understand.

Rob Newberry

That makes so much… scents. See what I did here?😀😂

Daniel Schneider

As a kid I would get stickers, they still make them, where say the sticker was a strawberry: you scratch the surface and then the scent of a "strawberry " would emerge... they're pretty cool... especially if you like stickers...

Evan Robinette

I haven't heard of it yet, but it sounds like an interesting idea

Daniel Schneider

Do they have scratch and sniff stickers in Germany? That'd be a funny magic trick, that somehow ends by scratching a card...😁 or they scratch the roses and poof! You smell roses...

Evan Robinette

I really thought about adding a scent somehow. Not directly to the cards but maybe to the package when you open it. But that's too much hassle for any fulfillment team :D

Daniel Schneider

Okay, I wondered about that because it really does look like tiny little strips woven over the card... I didn't know if that was the paper or what? That's cool. Thanks for the info... How about adding a lavender scent to all the decks as well? 😅 joking...

Evan Robinette

Well you can see the wild unstructured linen finish on Cartamundi cards 😃 that's because they really roll over the cards with a huge old ass machine that creates this pattern.

Daniel Schneider

Okay that makes sense because the stingers have that feel to them as well... so even when they say true linen finish that's all marketing? What about cartimundi? Is linen just a euphemism for soft?

Evan Robinette

USPCC has only 2 finishes 😃 Smooth and Air-Cushion finish aka linen aka Casino aka Linoid etc. All the different names are just marketing now. Half a century ago there were different finishes. They just never changed the text on the Tally-Ho box since it's also part of the design. The difference that you feel has something to do with the machine that they use for bigger print runs. The web press. I think you need to print 15,000 decks in order to use this machine. But that's why a lot Orbit decks also feel much better.

Daniel Schneider

Also I love a linen or linoid finish like on tally ho... I might be in the minority there but I just love the way they feel...

Evan Robinette

These colors are so vivid. The next big challenge will be to make sure that the finished deck really has this color.

Daniel Schneider

By the way this shade of purple/lavender looks GORGEOUS, besides the V1 Hotels these are absolutely my new favorites. Knocked it out of the park, mate.

Yep a while back I voiced my opinion but it’s a strong one haha, I like my USPCC cards. Although a strong devotee to your brand, Black Roses being my favorite cards, as long as they look and feel cool, I’ll keep buying regardless of the card stock used. Keep up the rad designs!

Ryan

At some point you already wrote why you prefer USPCC and that was also a decisive point for me to say that I have to go back to USPCC. Of course, several factors played a role, but I also know that nobody will be unhappy with a USPCC deck in the end. So thanks for sharing your thoughts :) 🙌🏼

Daniel Schneider

Dammit. 🤣😏😮‍💨

Am in a similar boat. I use cards as a stimming device and definitely agree with USPCC just holding up better, especially for fanning. I am incredibly excited for this next hotel deck, as it will be the first BR USPCC Kickstarter I've been around for.

Colin Childs

I'll quote you on this 🙂‍↕️🙌🏼🙏🏼

To give a little context, I go through multiple decks in a day. I’m a music producer and audio engineer with bad ADHD and what helps me focus is having something to do with my hands, so while I listen to a record I fidget with cards. While they all wear differently, I’ve gone through at least 400 decks in the last few years of my career and I can absolutely, without a doubt assure you that USPCC cards hold up longer and retain their shape/fanability, able to do packet cuts, any Cardistry moves or even just basic magic routines, better than ANY company. I’m not an any way associated with USPCC but as someone who I guarantee has spent more time than 99% of people on here with playing cards (amateur magician for 20+ years as well), USPCC holds up better for a working magician or someone who likes to keep their decks shape longer than other companies. That’s not to say the other companies are bad, I’d put Butterfly playing cards made by Cartamundi up there with cards able to “stay put” longer, but they don’t farro nearly as well as USPCC. Just personal preference. I totally get while trying new things out may not come with the backing of USPCC due to them not having the same tech as other companies, for just your standard playing card that is intended for use, USPCC is the way to go.

Ryan

No worries, man. I will buy ALL OF THEM.* *Please do not quote me on this; I am not by any means a rich man. However, I will definitely buy as many of them as I possibly can, because this deck hits me a LOT like the V1 Hotel deck did, and that was literally the deck that cemented my status as “noob collector of interesting-looking, well-designed, artistically stimulating decks of playing cards” back in April 2020. Yeah…I’m one of *those* guys. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Jay Lesage

USPCC 110%

Ryan

I don't mind uspcc but I prefer the stock you use for the stingers vs. Thin crushed... that's just my humble opinion... you make beautiful cards...
