Black Remedies Printed Proofs

After a long back and forth the printed proofs finally arrived.

Normally printed proofs aren't really necessary at all. I just wanted to be on the safe side.
Most of the time I'm working with Corel Draw. USPCC even advises against using the program. But I already use all the functions in this program intuitively. So it wouldn't make sense for me to switch completely to Adobe Illutrator.

When I save the files final for USPCC in AI files, sometimes very thin lines appear on the court cards. In some cases these lines aren't really visible on the digital files - only in print.
Unfortunately such a mistake happened to me - again - in the MxS Casinos. So this time I really wanted to be 100% sure. I even received printed proofs of the MxS Casinos but since I didn't specifically look for it, I overlooked it.

Even with my drive for perfection, "mistakes" happen in almost all my deck. In many cases, it's just little things that only I notice. But often there are also things that could have been avoided. Anyway, I know I'm not alone with this and I see many things in other decks that were definitely not planned that way. I guess you can call it occupational disease... :D

The 9 of Diamonds reveal on all previous Remedies Jokers was chosen pretty randomly. I've changed it now to the 5 of Spades. The Jokers were also a reason why I wanted to see the printed proofs. All files in my decks are vector files to ensure the sharpest quality. But I had to save the Remedies Jokers in all previous decks as bitmap file. Same issue again with Corel Draw. Too many combined dots that the Corel Draw couldn't save as AI file without destroying the drawing. In the end I had the idea to simply vectorize a screenshot of the Joker. I wasn't sure how it would look in print but it looks great. The bitmap file in all the Remedies decks so far is why I didn't change the Joker reveal earlier.

There are a few changes in this deck which doesn't look like a lot at all. But these changes are the reason why we didn't print the Black Remedies together with the green and blue edition. As you already know, I just need some time to get things right.

Btw, the MxS Casino deck was the last deck with Tiny Eye Dan :D
The Black Remedies deck will be the first deck where I have improved the drawing of my eye - a long overdue update that I'm very happy with.
If you take a closer look at the image you can see that only Madison's axe is white. It looks like a mistake, but it's intentional.

There is so much more to say about all the details. The only question is how interesting it really is. But I rather talk more about it when the deck is printed. Hopefully in June/July.

Much love

Daniel

Comments

There are lines from the colors of the courts - mostly black - that go from anchor point to anchor point across the card.

So is it little lines in the actual image or all through out the negative space also?

I always love reading these updates for projects. There are so many great details hidden! 🔥
