I recently talked to Lee Asher and his exact words were: "you've made my day knowing someone is playing with Dondorf art". Of course, since he is a living library when it comes to playing cards I shouldn't be surprised that he knows so much about Dondorf Playing Cards.
It must be something between my own selfishness or OCD but I don't want to print one of my own decks without myself as the King of Diamonds. But I also didn't want to replace the original artwork so the only option is to add one extra King of Diamonds to the deck (again).
The Dondorf King of Diamonds - same as every other court card in this deck - is really interesting. You can clearly see how they have copied the US courts but with a few minor changes. The axe is in front of the body and doesn't disappear behind it - which makes more sense actually. A hand is holding the axe. Like that you can see four hands on the King of Diamonds. An unusual image for us since we aren't used to see that. The only court with four hands from the standard courts that we all know is the King of Hearts.
