Author's Tier Poll: Content Frequency!

Are you getting enough bang for your buck in this, my VIP tier? (Or too much bang? Perhaps not enough bang?) Help me calibrate this tier to bring you optimal reading and parasocial* delight! Please vote, and if so moved, embroider your response in the comments.

I ask because, as a former subscriber to The New Yorker, I found myself overwhelmed by the teetering pile of magazines that steadily grew at the side of my living room chair, and ended up canceling my subscription**. I would not like us to have this kind of relationship.

Personally, I would like to post even more exclusive content in this tier—from little "social media"-style updates to full-on original short stories—but I am still feeling my way forward in this grand experiment. As a "usual-style human," it can be hard to accept that people actually want to see a picture of you and your kid decked out for Depeche Mode, or of a car you found difficult to believe, or to read a story you wrote about a Dickensian cricket who became the psychology part of a young boy.

Thank you so much for sounding off. Huuugs!

*If you see me around town, please do say hello. I always like when that happens. I am experienced in creating pleasant closure in these situations, so do not feel like it will go on awkwardly long and that it will be your fault. Even if I am eating a salad, I would like to meet you.

**Also, the quality of the Shouts & Murmurs section had started to sicken me.

Hey pass that jar

Matt Mitchell

ok wapo that is gross and wrong

Aaron G. Stock

Help me I am trapped underneath an avalanche of unread New Yorkers.

Nicholas Williams

I voted GOOD. I'd never turn down more but I think you have a good handle on things right now.

Shawn Warren

I voted for more as a way of saying feel free to point out unusual trucks or bicycles or crosswalks. I am not a robot.

C C

I voted for MORE if ya got it and want to share, but really, I have been delighted with the amount and frequency of posts. The resurrection of Achewood has been a bright spot in an otherwise questionable year.

Amy Lewis

I voted MORE, but I admit that I am greedy. GOOD is also an accurate descriptor, as I do not wish you to be enstressed.

John Robinson

Also happy with current amount but would welcome more. You are an American treasure.

Andrew

I voted for more but would also be satisfied with the same level. I find I tend to be a cyclical binger of my favorite media, and, as weird as this is to say upon full reflection, reading about your life and your process and your extra this and that of Achewood paraphernalia is in that cycle. If there was more, I'd read more.

Nate

Yeah but WHAT A COMEBACK. Dude, this has been a spectacular year and just knowing that you got where you are despite where you were is the most heartwarming tale I've yet heard.

Paul Dunn

Hey I had a bad decade alright pal (swigs from jar of Minwax wood stain)

Chris Onstad

“Love like you’ve never been hurt / Dance like there’s a gun in your mouth”

Post Like no one is watching.

Andrew Derho

Voted for the porridge that was just right, but any amount is good. The worst thing an author can do is just disappear, you know? We start to worry when that happens.

Paul Dunn

Voted MORE, but perfectly happy with the current frequency.

Matt Mitchell

I just wanted to say thank you! Despite having the same relationship to the New Yorker as you describe lingering in my own past, I'm excited for you to share whatever you like. It is much less offputting to delete an email than to recycle a pile of dead tree that many struggled to prepare and physically bring to me, versus a bunch of bits that others got tremendous value from.

fool

You do you, homie. I am satisfied with it as is, but will welcome more, and not worry about less.

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

Voted Good. Would gladly (and immediately) consume anything you send our way, regardless of volume or frequency, but pls don’t ever feel like you “owe” any of us anything. It’s quite the reverse, in fact, and I’m grateful for anything we get. What we’ve gotten since your grand return had been literal treasure, and one doesn’t dare tempt Providence by demanding more miracles. Thanks again!!

Jay Williams

Voted Good. There's a LOT of time ahead of us, no rush to get into it, and even I find myself going "Oh yeah I didn't catch up" once in a while on this content. I have no need for more when that's always on the table in time! Great work so far and perfect pace so far I say.

Joe Locastro

I have gone back and re-read your thoughts on toaster ovens and yard work multiple times in the last two decades. What I’m saying is, I’m the wrong person to ask.

Doctor Link

I voted for more and then immediately thought that was placing undue pressure on the author and regretted it. I’m satisfied with the amount of content but would welcome more. I just allowed my Washington Post subscription to lapse after their editorial board wrote an opinion piece on why liberal women were dooming marriage because of their refusal to date trump supporters. And the New Yorker will be going next because of Susan Glasser’s writing and appearance on the podcasts. Sorry for the digression.

Omurice

Voted GOOD but MORE is always welcome!

Michael Akey

I feel like I'm getting my money's worth already, but I'm always happy to look at whatever you feel like sharing!

Jacquelyn R Walters

I would be happy to read more, but absolutely feel that at current volume it is fantastic value. I do also consider these payments to backdate twenty odd years to when I had no funds but repeatedly reread the archive.

FLON

Also I don't use social media at all so seeing pics of weird Portland vans is still novel

braap

I'm pretty happy with the volume, and delighted by the quality. Much more and I would be in the New Yorker situation.

blair

I consider this monthly payment just back dues for 2005-2011 when achewood was a non trivial part of my mental health escapism. It doesn't hold such a lofty place in my psyche these days but I still look forward to seeing that little P notification pop up
