Lost Strip: 2009, Téodor Writing Lyle's Biography

I recently came across this fourteen-year-old artboard from March of 2009, and I can't find it anywhere in the published archive or via the dialogue search service, so I suspect it was considered "not good enough" and subsequently lost to the sands of time. Today, in 2023, I actually consider it a perfectly passable strip, and because its content is true to the (fairly loose, admittedly) internal rules of the Achewood universe, I'm posting it in all three tiers, as a fun little treat that everyone should have seen way back in the first place.

If I am wrong, and this was actually posted in some forgotten yet still visible cranny of the slowly-listing Achewood world-barge, well, "so what," I guess.

Fluids Meridian, or Evening Redness in the Ravine Containing the Paper Mill Runoff

Douglas Wykstra

one of those anachronisms that maybe stings a bit more than the others

Eric Sorenson

I mean, I laughed at most of Teodor’s pitches here, so more than good enough I suppose.

Jason Cote

Lyle's life is very much like an incriminating web browser history.

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

It's just another hot summer day on the mean streets of Milwaukee, my guy.

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

Feels like he's cribbing someone who's cribbing Lovecraft.

Oppido

Can't say for sure whose writing T's cribbing here but I'm guessing this bio is going to be light on the commas and apostrophes if you catch my drift

This role is Matty Matheson's to lose.

Matt Amis

Dang, looking forward to someday seeing the return of ol' Nice Pete. Despite being a man out of time, seems to me one with his particular ways and means might flourish in the murky milleu of today.

Nick Nolte’s mugshot with a hole cut out for Tom Waits’ mouth is one of those things you’d never put together on your own but it just fits together like tetris pieces

Shawn Warren

ACE OF SPADES

80s Guy

Goddamnit if nobody’s gonna white knight for Nick Nolte then I will, dude is a NATIONAL TREASURE

Ben Sunshine-Hill

that is one cool dog

J-rome

I would count "plastic grocery bag bursting with ground beef and Schlitz" as one of the sickest burns in the strip.

Ivan Krasovec

When I get psychotic enough to imagine that someone might make a movie about my travels, which have as much to say for themselves as a bowl of fruit on a table, I sometimes wonder if they could get actors that I remember from my youth to play me. Someone like James Spader, or Anthony Edwards, or a gross amalgam of the two. This seemed impossible to me until the advent of modern AI horseshit that's probably gonna leave all those poor SAG/AFTRA folks out in the cold. I'm not saying the aggrieved don't have a point, or that they don't have rights, I'm suggesting that everyday they continue to beg for more gruel from the talentless bean-counters and the fat cats that employ them, the more those very same, very rich executives might probably rather deal with a block of software that doesn't care how it's treated or compensated. Is it right? No. Do things like that happen everyday? Yes.

The Tom Waits line *chef kiss *

“Dank butt-mud.” Now that is some no uncertain opinion. (Swig)

Chris Onstad

I did wonder if maybe it had been in assetbar/fanflow. I don’t have an obvious way of finding that out, so here you go (again). Thanks!

Chris Onstad

This is great stuff! I like Teodor's Garth Marenghi-esque prose

Tim from New Hampshire

Yeah, it's got a Pete Cropes vibe, but I think the Nick Nolte cutout would be good. Especially if it stank of bum-level BO.

J Hardy Carroll

stay classy T

Sedric And Charlie

Swig!

John Robinson

Oh dang thank for this - your old "not good enough" is sweet sunshine compared to the dank butt-mud that passes for fresh humors these days so have a drink on me

Yelahneb Unicornucopiax

I've never seen this and I appreciate the alternate universe where Lemmy is still alive.

Brian Sutton

Nick Nolte’s mugshot with a cutout for Tom Waits’ mouth has to be the most accurate visual representation of Lyle imaginable - that’s just genius! It’s in the fanflow, I think…
