0002 - Return of Achewood, pt 2

In a thrillingly on-time update (I kid; these updates are loaded long in advance), Ray continues to declare corporeal discomfort so great that he must be served by others. His long-suffering friend Roast Beef walks down the hallway in his stead, in order to discern the identity of their visitor. This is also a continuation of the story arc; but will next week be a classic, "Achewood one-off"? Either way, we'll see you here.

Chuck's spirit is still restless, but it is pretty hard to tell a nine-year-old child that they are dead

Oppido

There’s a short story about him in the Author’s Tier right now, I’m not even making this up

Chris Onstad

Is Charlie Brown still hanging around somewhere

Keith Richards

you mustn't! Sterling Holloway is not public domain!

I got you Ray. Hell of tedious to piss in Morse code.

Better than horror pooh

Micah I Thomas

For some reason, I read Pooh in David Thewlis’s voice.

Jason K

This whole situation is a dang delight. FWIW, I always thought Owl would be a fun hang. Prob has lots of stories.

Linus Lee

I wonder if he ever prank called him back in the day.

Matthew Hutton

I like late-middle-aged Ray who’s maybe experiencing bodily changes. Also love how sometimes Achewood is just gross.

Meadow Green

Pooh looks like he jumped right off the pages of the original books, also thinking about it this is actually a pretty natural crossover considering a good chunk of Achewood's main cast are also stuffed animals course now this makes me want to see everyone rendered up in the style of EH Shepard, or at least Philippe cause that would be incredibly adorable

drrockso20

dude's always getting his drip on, can't hardly stop him

80s Guy

“I thought he was a boy?” “So did I,” said Christopher Robin. “Then you can’t call him Winnie?” “I don’t. He’s Winnie-*ther*-Pooh. Don’t you know what ‘ther’ means?” “Ah, yes,” I said; and I hope you do too, because it is all the explanation you are going to get.

80s Guy

Amazing

Chris Onstad

Winnie the Pooh! I thought Xi Jinping took you down like an Egyptian Emperor!

GruntyGinMan

They just straight up don’t, and that’s ok. But I am figuring out a way that will retain the Magique of the original system.

Chris Onstad

Honestly bummed that Patreon doesn't support custom alt tag attributes.

Colter McCorkindale

Good to see you again, Keef! Everybody: Keef is one of the oldest Knuckleheads possible.

Chris Onstad

Yeah, that is pretty filthy. You should start a patreon to capitalize on this kind of thing.

Chris Onstad

Lord but it is good to see new strips. Thanks for this, Chris.

Keef

Winnie gonna give him the low down on the pub domain

Bexx

i pray that god spares me an anagram!

Craim pop Jalopy

no you didnt you're just lying to impress us. cut it out with that filth

Craim pop Jalopy

i was all, drip drip dripdrip

b.zap

i got my drip on like 4 times today

b.zap

It does not. Maybe I will post it below the strip in anagram form each week. I have several brave and intelligent engineers from the greatest halls of Math and Logic working on this.

Chris Onstad

Better than having piss shiver, I guess

Benjamin Seitelman

Does the Patreon platform allow for alt-text jokes? I miss those. 😞

ErikK

Hearing Pooh in Sterling Holloway's voice.

Mightyclaw

The "shock graphic" that google automatically supplies when looking up that acronym was really nice over a turkey sandwich

I'm seeing that too. I have put in a note to Patreon to put us on their vision plan

Chris Onstad

They look good to me except for that weird cataract-shaped thing in the middle of every panel.

Ben R. Williams

Hmmm, yes. I think the quote Jason Draper pulled from the strip, below, sums it all up pretty well — “what even is life.”

Thomas Williams

Me every night of my 57-year-old life. I'm going to remember this as the good old days, too.

J Hardy Carroll

I imagine they could eke out 150 minutes from a 90-year career. It's like the "Let's all remember Jack Soo" episode of Barney Miller where the actors sat around and talked about what a great guy Jack was, except they'd be talking about how Billy preached all about Satan and how gay people are bad.

J Hardy Carroll

Oh dearie me Aaron you can officially unsee that man’s videos by watching 2.5 hours of The Best of Billy Graham (this is porno offset credits btw)

Chris Onstad

Member British Parliament. You’ve reached the House of Commons!

Aaron J. Rushton

There’s uhh there’s already a dude. He says he’s from Cleveland if that gives you any hints.

Aaron J. Rushton

I wish the last panel wasn’t so relatable.

Moira's Machine

Charlie Brown is a human boy and Winnie the Pooh is a stuffed bear. Stuffed creatures are functionally unchanging - Phillipe is 5. Teodor is probably always gonna be Like That, etc.

Thank you Michael. (What's an MBP?) I suspect that whatever software setting is downsampling the original uploads (which are huge, crisp, massive, simply fabulous, a lot of people are saying they are the biggest comic image files they have ever seen, not what you are reading in the New York Times) just isn't resulting in crisp resolution. I have been chatting about this with Patreon this morning -- they are extremely responsive so I anticipate the experience improving soon. But so everybody knows, if you tap on the comic images, they enlarge beautifully.

Chris Onstad

Similar. New MBP here. I attributed it to my old ass eyes but lets go with a hardware issue. I like the sound of that better.

Michael Akey

Thanks to you, and thanks to Dan, I have an active conversation going with Patreon to figure out how we can improve this "sitch." I notice that on my screen they are, while definitely not as crisp as the enlargement, not exactly of a resolution I would be proud to show the year 2525.

Chris Onstad

That is ok by me. The images are great. Tell us more.

Michael Akey

Ray knows not what it is to pee. "Damn," I suppose.

Nicholas Williams

I work for a Website and we have found that in this age of varying levels of retina screens, the quality of an image can look radically different based on the hardware. We haven't had the resources to find whatever the special equation is that makes an image appear appropriately clear on all devices yet, though. I will say that on this 16in 2021 MacBook Pro, the un-expanded image is blurry but the enlarged one is crystal clear for me.

Sar

I'll clean the thread up now, actually. LMK your platform and OS too ok please?

Chris Onstad

Dan, let's figure this out over email ok? I'd like to be able to see screenshots of what you're seeing. Chris@achewood.com. Also, once we establish contact there, I may clean up the two previous out-of-thread responses, so the discussion on this strip is tidy.

Chris Onstad

But I’m very curious to hear user experiences as this is all new. What I can say is the strips I’m uploading are I think over twice as big as the ones on Achewood.com

Chris Onstad

Tap to enlarge? That help?

Chris Onstad

Do these new strips look blurry?

Dan W

Please keep Eeyore out of the Volvo of Despair.

denv_eric

Isn't it nice not having to worry about an immediate cease and desist notice from the Walt Disney Corporation? I can't wait until Steamboat Willie shows up on Pornhub.

J Hardy Carroll

🎵Winnie the Pooh, Winnie the Pooh, tubby little cubby all covered in grave dirt… 🎵

Ian Macleod

“Ray Smuckles! Will you kindly shake your dick and say tut tut it looks like rain?”

Omurice

I know it's just a fucking drawing, but it does feel like Pooh has been put out to turn tricks out in the "Public Domain." It would be a sincere pleasure to see this little bear taken in by the Achewood gang as some kind of hospice thing.

Hector Jimenez

What even is life..

jason

There's no way to add alt text currently, but I've asked Patreon if it's possible to add. Maybe I just add it in the strip summary paragraph ... but in a hidden way, like digital lemon juice (check if this is a thing)

Chris Onstad

Just occurred to me — Might not have been T, but it was a bear! And that Pooh can fit the “alive stuffed animal” category like T and Cornelius and the other originals. A conversation between Pooh and Ray coming up… I mean, it can’t possibly go any worse than what happened with Charlie Brown… right?

Thomas Williams

What about the ghost text oh noooo

Silver Smoulder

Does it spoil things if I come in here and talk about how I'm working with the original Shepard images, etc. -- or even reply? I had envisioned this as the "inside the fourth wall" area, but maybe comment sections are fair game.

Chris Onstad

did Pooh dig himself out of his own grave? he looks like he just massacred some river salmon.
