The Battle of Legnano (1176) - Bow and Blade, Episode 43
Added 2024-01-24 14:49:40 +0000 UTCIn this episode of Bow & Blade, Michael and Kelly look at how the imperial army of Frederick Barbarossa and a Milanese force suddenly encounter each other in northern Italy. How would this battle change the Holy Roman Empire's plans for Italian conquest?

Looking very forward to your relook of Poitiers. Just finished Michael’s book on Agincourt. And now that a paperback is out, have finally been able to order the book about the Siege of Rhodes that Kelly contributed to. For the Q&A: You mentioned in the Bannockburn and Agincourt episodes about setting terms for a siege, “If not relieved by X date, then we’ll surrender.” Is this one of the reasons why there wasn’t more of an effort to maintain a professional engineer or sapper troop? Because it was easier to just wait it out and accept a surrender than to spend the money maintaining the siege equipment to try and force a quick(er) resolution?
