NEW VIDEO: 4.5 Billion Years in 1 Hour

Earth is 4.5 billion years old - which is approximately the same amount of time it took us to create this video.

We’ve scaled the complete timeline of our Earth’s life into our first animated movie! Every second shows about a million years of the planet’s evolution.

Hop on a musical train ride and experience how long a billion years really is. It’s the perfect background for your next party, a great way to take a break from studying, or a fascinating companion while you’re on the go

… and our celebration of 10 years of kurzgesagt.

NEW VIDEO: 4.5 Billion Years in 1 Hour

I heard there’s a video somewhere on the kurz gesagt labsays that there is a video that says about fusion energy

Matt

I believe that period of the solar system's formation was hot everywhere, there wasn't much cooled rock and there was a lot of collisions between bodies which also added energy and heat to the matter.

Sarah Martinez

Most of the history of the Earth, nothing happened. But when people learn about the history of the Earth, they don't really feel that. This video fixes that problem. Really well. Thanks.

Watched the whole video - why the hell not - we´re wasting so much time on stuff that´s unimportant. Might as well get a glimpse of a feeling "how" long this rock has been around and get the tiny bitsy bit of a feel how improbable it is for me as a thinking being (I hope) to sit here and watch something like this. ... Funny story today tho: One of my kids (7 year old girl - got 4 kids altogether) asked me how the earth was created - totally unrelated to me watching this vid 2 days before. Sat her before the vid (she doesn´t even understand english), explained what the vid is about and expected she´ll get bored after 2 min. and leave... but later today she walked up to me and asked "I watched everything saw the boy in the end and said to me: "That´s us - not very long, right? But fun to watch - I´ll go eat pudding now, Papa, see ya" ... well, whadday say to that? O.o

Was boring in the first few minutes, wish could skip those and have a longer version - maybe 50 seconds to round up the last million years! Thank you for all the videos especialy the ones on stars, questions on life/ existential and immunity & germs videos.

Tushar Kapila

Such a wonderful job!! The sound track is a masterwork!

Forgive my ignorance, but curious. In the Hadean era the incoming meteorites are shown as burning balls. I thought meteorites only become hot and burn due to friction with our atmosphere, but was there atmosphere this early? Perhaps a better question would be when did our Earthly hellscape develop a gaseous atmosphere?

wow

A duck...

happy 10th year. This is amazing! Thank you for what you do!

Lisa Marie Fuqua

That was so interesting. I loved it.

It's epic mountain! They do all of Kurzgesagt's music. The album for this on is awesome and it's on Spotify https://open.spotify.com/album/2MWvRcvhhGaES1MPO7t3Y1?si=dh9WJAz_SY-d-ibnN8DBfw

that was deeply moving - how long it took, and the struggle Gaia went through to get to this point, as well as how very short our time has been here.

RHall

Love the soundtrack. Where can I download it?

Patrick Suchor

10 years! And what a way to celebrate. Thank you!

Whitefang

Chriss

I love this vid so much it’s why I became a patron ..so much work and so beautiful and did it for free ..I respect that 🤌🏻

Chriss

Wonderful animation - but this time the music deserves a special mention star: an epic soundtrack, and one I'll have playing in the background animation or not.

Luc Mayrand

This video is great. Your voice overs are good, as usual, but for this video you should release a zero talking version as well for additional background viewings

Jake Coogle

Wow. WOW!!! What a treat that was!!! I'm in awe. Thank you Kurzgesagt that was incredible.

What a fantastic Kurzgesagt way to celebrate 10 years. VoiceOver man put a shift in on this one!

Team Saunders

This is the work, I am and I will gladly patron for a long time to come! Incredible video! Also happy 10th anniversary!

Neil

This was without a doubt one of the greatest timeline videos I have seen, I mean just wow. Watching the whole video was amazing.

ghostman

great video. makes the point about life in time. two suggestions post edit: (1) you don't distinguish between rocky and snowball infall, so the origin of the archaic rain and oceans is mysterious; (2) insert a thumbnail of earth (upper left or right) rotating every 20 Myr or so to show the evolving continents, which plays a crucial role in evolution. cheers.

drollere

Amazing video! It would almost deserve a long and narrow "banner-like" poster. 4,5 meters would be nearly perfect :D Ideal for schools ;-)

ThearanCZ

Please tell me this is inspiration for the next limited-edition pin! Wow team, so good.

Jackson Walker

One hour long Kurzgesagt video? Oh my.

Filias

Putting the "magnum" into the opus magnum ;-)
