On the Radar for Radon Journal

The image you see above is a teaser taken directly from our upcoming issue 6 cover art. The digital art piece is quite large and required cropping, so the image here is from the portion of the art we are not using. But it does give a tantalizing peek into what you can expect. What could this machine part be yelling about? You'll find out soon.

Dual Subscription and Partnership

Nearly one year to the day we entered into a partnership with UK-based Seize the Press Magazine. Through this, we were able to offer a unique dual subscription to our supporters and assist one another as fledgling semipro publishers. This agreement has now come to an end and we are pursuing our unique directions.

Because we do not want any of our valued supporters to feel they are receiving less than what they signed up for, we are happy to announce that we are entering into a partnership with Space Cowboy Books and their monthly Simultaneous Times podcast.

Space Cowboy is an independent science fiction bookstore based out of California, who's name you may recognize from our collaboration with them in issue 5. They helped us bring to life two voiced versions of our fiction stories. Simultaneous Times is a monthly anthology sci-fi podcast, bringing professional voice acting to your favorite sci-fi short stories.

Both parties have agreed and we are currently hammering out exactly what additional goodies we will be able to routinely send to you beginning January.

For those of you looking for an additional subscription to a cyber sci-fi journal, we are also in talks with another journal but are not at the point to announce anything yet.

Interview Season 5

Today we sent out our final early release interview. After three months interviews of weekly interviews for issue 5 authors, we have come to an end. Next week the final interview will go live on our site and we will take a break until issue 6 is released.

We fall in love with our authors and their words all over again each interview we conduct. The breadth of wisdom and insight is unmatched and always humbles us. We hope everyone is enjoying these features as much as we are creating them. (Based on the growing page view count, the interviews are catching on well).

2023 Award Season

Another award season has come and gone. Radon Journal proudly nominated over 40 of our writers for more than 10 awards and prizes this year. We have also enjoyed celebrating with our authors their victories and hope for many more in 2024.

Poetry award season kicks into gear as soon as January rolls around, as Radon was invited to nominate five poems from our 2023 issues for the upcoming Robert Siegel Prize. Beyond this is a slew of exciting SFPA awards that all of our poets are eligible to be nominated for. Stay tuned as well for next year begins the slow rollout of winner announcements that we are sure will be exciting.

Production Update

Issue 6 will launch in just over a month. We have secured all of our artwork, and contracted 7 poems and 5 short stories. Optimally we will have an even 10 for each category but there is no hard and fast number. Will be busy reading to fill the issue for the next 2-3 weeks and our Submittable is bursting with well over a hundred brand new submissions as this post goes live. We thank writers for answering our submission calls.

In earlier issues we began our developmental and copyediting earlier in the process, but the January issue is always special. Well, special in that it always sneaks up on us and takes a little extra effort to put out as we deal with end of the year life events.

For issue 6 we will include a special editor's note from three Radon Journal editors. In it we'll reflect on our two-year anniversary and wax sentimental about our past and future aims.

Grant Application

Radon is a proud Community of Literary Magazines & Presses (CLMP) member, and have enjoyed its community and resources to help us grow. As part of this growth, we have completed and sent in an application for their Professional Development Consulting Program. If granted, this will pay for Radon to afford a professional web developer consultant to enhance our website with many features and finetunings.

Our authors and readers deserve the absolute best and we will do our damnest to provide it.

Thank you for all for supporting us this past year. 2024 will continue our growth and unleash more world-changing stories and poems out into the universe.
