Dirty Deeds

Hey Everyone. I'm having fun creating some hags and the poor minions who have sadly made deals with them. Hags are a really interesting foe to throw at players. I was wondering how you've all used hags in your game, or how have you had to dealt with them as a player.

I really dig that! It rewards players for paying attention too.

I use some homebrew lore for hags since they are a huge part of my current campaign. When a hag eats a child to reproduce, a phantom of that child lives on in a ghostly part of the feywild. The phantom child is connected spiritually to the newborn hag, and the child's favorite thing is shared with the hag. For example, if the child's most pleasant memory before being devoured was its mother singing it to sleep at night, that hag will also desire the sound of singing. However, hags must be careful not to indulge these deepest of their desires too openly. Hags always return to life shortly after they are defeated, unless they are killed while attuned to their mirror self. So you could sing to the hag in the example above, just as you killed her, and she couldn't return. This gives the PCs reasons to snoop around and spy on the hags, trying to determine their weakness, which I think is more fun than just fighting them. It is also creepy as hell, since the hags really channel the spirit of the child they were made from - imagine a withered old hag contorting herself into a child's crib as the bard she imprisoned sings her to sleep from his cage.

That sounds awesome! I wonder if the other players are catching on to her hag connection.
