I wholeheartedly agree with your disappointment in S12 with Mary. I had such high hopes when she was shown in the finale of S11. But I don't just blame Dabb here - don't forget that he was never "the showrunner". Bob Singer was his co-showrunner and what he did by allowing, writing, producing...whatever you want to call it... in S12 - specifically with Mary's story is what I would have expected with brand new people that had no historical concept of what SPN truly is. And they can miss me with the BS excuses they gave about "Mary being more than a mom". Please - that kind of misogynistic drivel died out in the 70's...lol. What it looked like to me was a sloppy story and dialog written by men that clearly didn't communicate with Sam Smith about what they were trying to achieve. It was ridiculous all around. Jody's character was enough proof that women can be badass hunters AND a good mom at the same time. Fun fact: Jody first appeared in one of Carver's episodes.

2025-10-14 08:48:36 +0000 UTCI think that BABY should have been broken or almost completely dismantled in the Chuck finale. Worst then it has ever been. Then the montage would have Sam over the years with his son slowly rebuilding it completely. Dean seeing her in heaven would have a bigger impact if he last saw her "Die".

She doesn't actually assume the mantel of Death until season 12, when Cas kills her, since the first reaper to die after Death is killed becomes the new Death. As for why Billie said she would drop Sam and Dean in The Empty, it is because at this point, it is assumed that nothing can escape The Empty, that nothing at all can come back from it once they have entered. Even The Empty itself (thanks to Chuck's lies) believes that it alone has sole dominion over the space and that Chuck can't influence it, so Billie fully believes that if she drops Sam and Dean's souls there, they can never return to the world again. Completely agree with this episode being the best of the best of Supernatural, it is just a flawless episode. Baby is 1000% the winner of this episode.
