Almost caught up now. Shiny! Arianna you pegged exactly what River was doing while they were detained: Reading something from Jayne's past and throwing it back at him. I guess Mama Cobb left him coal in his stocking one Christmas... I think River sort of likes Jayne - or maybe more than sort of... She's definitely teasing him with this, and at the end of 'Safe' she takes his piece of bread off his plate so he has to reach for more, and there's more. I think River and Jayne would be a good hookup. A very weird relationship, yeah; but I think it would be good for both of them.
