Melissandre may have wanted to burn the bodies but in season one (or the books anyway) Ned tell Robb and Jon that the man who passes the sentence should wield the sword.

2025-06-19 20:20:55 +0000 UTCJon Snow’s watch ended technically because he died. The oath says that only death frees a Night’s Watch man of his service. Jon Snow died, so he had every right to leave the Night’s Watch I think.
