Game of Thrones 7x5-6 | Watch Along

Sorry about the mix up on the Tiers guys. Got it sorted.

Game of Thrones 7x5-6 | Watch Along

Comments

.... yeah ok, it's impossible to watch something « not comedy » with you guys... I tried Breaking Bad : the last seasons, that was just you bitching EVE-RY-TIME Walter spoke or was on screen ! I tried Game of Thrones (to give a second chance) : in like 60% of each episodes, you just singing, laughing, talking over people on screen… and later, when some things come up, you don’t know them or/and you’re bichin about it coz of course, it’s like it’s coming from nowhere… it’s F’ing frustrating I watched « What We Do In The Shadows » with you, and now I watch « Arrested Development » with you… it’s fun, you’re laughing (way more of course, but not that much either), and strangely enough, you talk less over for theses shows… so yeah, I get it now : Comedy is ok, but serious stuff ? not again

I wish people could just let others like things instead of constantly telling everyone how bad they think it is.

This episode was the point where the writers got extremely sloppy with the show. The writing had already taken a step back but it was still working given the circumstances with GRR Martin. Everything breaks down in terms of continuity from here on out, starting with the insane Gendry / raven / dragon time travel paradox, the character dilution, and the constant use of the "insurmountable odds battle" only to get saved in the nick of time trope. Dragons come in clutch for the 10th time, UNC Benj saves the day again. One of the things that was so unique about this show was that all the protagonists you rooted for, no matter how integral to the story arc, were just as vulnerable to an untimely death as anyone else. It's here where the heroes become more or less god tier protected from reality. The show still has some redeeming qualities after this episode but they become fewer and further in between. Such a tragic waste of epic storytelling when it's all said and done. I hope the reboot in 20 years finds some justice for the audience.

I gotta say, you two missed some stuff here. The whole scene in the Dragonmont with the cave of obsidian and the drawings on the walls is an extremely pivotal point in their budding thing. Beyond that, Davos points out his attraction to her in that 4th episode. And on top of that, you both say that he's already smitten by her when he walked in the Throne room for the first time and meets her. Maybe the actors didn't actually play up the connection as well, but the show has always been leaning toward this outcome that they might hook up. We the viewers know that's not good, but they don't. Jon doesn't, at that stage he is a young battle weary man who was born a bastard and happened to be anointed King in the North after a lot of strife and death and loss. Now between the newfound autonomy as a king and the youth and the impending doom that makes life and connection that much more precious/valued, the relationship of two young monarchs seems to make sense. Again, their acting while not bad at all, might not play on that so clearly, and that is a mistake. But to say they don't play on it at all is inaccurate.

Not Really, like yeah he should've got on an left fast and if the dragon on the ground died I'd blame him. But the flying one was killed so if they left a bit sooner, one would still be sniped from the back as no one expected the NK to do that and they would let their guard down when on air.

Shahbaj Mohammad

They didn't criticize Jon for not getting on the dragon and continuing to fight, which directly contributed to the NK getting a dragon.

I think Daenerys was looking over the wall as a sort of depression after the loss of her child. An easter egg: iirc Daenerys dragons are the first who flew beyond The Wall. All the other dragons of Targaryens who visited Night's Watch were too scared to cross to the other side.

Really like the girls and agree with a lot of their critiques but this was a hard reaction to watch because they misconstrued a lot or just didn't seem to pick up on a bunch of things that were pretty clear (jon and dany chief among them)

Zane Platt

The burgeoning interest between Jon and Dany was very much obvious. I am genuinely amazed that the girls somehow didn't see it and are acting like it is in any way out of left field. It was suggested heavily and it makes perfect sense when you consider he is King of the North and a relationship between them would work politcally and romantically (because jon doesn't know they are related and Dany wouldn't care either way)

Zane Platt

To Daenerys burning men: "The man who passes the sentence should swing the sword" Btw. girls have big hatred for character lacking in their perspective, the viewers perspective. I don't know why they do that. Why be pissed off at maesters who had to doubt things for hundreds of years. Then we get a more lacking writing and they somehow can explain it with trying to understand the character's actions. It makes me so confused.

The gang worried about Jon 'kissing' Daenerys hahahahaahahaa How cute lmao For real thought for all the faults in Season 7 that romance was sort of set up pretty organically, you got to see Jon and Daenerys going from being dubious about each other to showing respect and Daenerys respecting Jon for his resolve and commitment to his cause..Davos even said something last episode, from Daenerys being super worried about Jon leaving and saying she had 'Grown used to the King in the North" right before he left...It didn't necessarily come out of nowhere to me

This one episode, especially the frozen lake scene has so much bullshit it's hard to swallow. 1. When Dany comes with her dragons and everyone mounts it to leave, why in the fk is John Snow ADVANCING while defending himself instead of backing up. That is so stupid 2. How do they know where to go from the wall? They just pick a random direction and poof there's that mountain you saw in the fire oh wow how lucky of us. 3. White walkers are a hive mind except for the generals, so why is the zombie bear in the middle of nowhere and doesn't even alert the others to the presence of humans? 4. Also when Jon sends Gendry to alert the others, how does he know he's the fastest? HE MET HIM YESTERDAY 5. Just before Gendry is sent away, we have a scene with him that confirms he has never been in such cold climate and doesn't handle it well, yet Jon trusts that this guy that is in such cold for the first time won't just die of hypothermia on the way? Instead of sending someone like, i don't know...THORMUND WHO SPEND HIS WHOLE LIFE OUTSIDE THE WALL!?! 6. The sheer fact that just as they started running away from the walkers they have this perfect haven next to them with a small rock in the middle surrounded by crumbling frozen lake, how fortunate! 7. The whole fight scene is just so dumb. Ofc they get perfectly drip fed with enemies instead of being swarmed and literally crushed by the weight of thousands zombies on them without a chance to even move around, but no the zombies just attack in small waves, small enough to handle. 8. Thormund getting attacked is so laughably bad, he just gets hugged by the zombies instead of torn and bitten to pieces. Like we see some throw away character get eaten in seconds while every of the "heroes" just gets hugged by the zombies hahaha 9. The night king, the badass mother f'er that he is, snipes one of the dragons that was flying super fast and was a hard target, and then when drogon sits with dany and other crew on the rock for like 5 minutes he just doesn't throw his spear, because reasons? What took him so long he couldn't throw another spear at drogon that was a literal sitting duck? He was reloading or what?! 10. When Jon is under water, not only does he hold his breath for insane amount of time, the night king just leaves his one of biggest human enemies instead of confirming the kill. I'd write more but I just get pissed off more and more. Season 7 and 8 have some great moments but they are just that, moments. D&D (writers of the show) are absolute idiots. Loved the reaction though.
