2025-02-18 23:20:01 +0000 UTCThe 90s were full of these wonderful queer films like this with technically no queer people in them. Fried Green Tomatoes; Hackers; Thelma and Louise; Hocus Pocus. It was a great time for queer subtext that flew right by the average audience.

2025-02-10 23:25:29 +0000 UTCNo, Maple, it was not just you. The transformation scene is extremely sexually charged. Louis and Lestat's entire vibe is charged. In fact, this movie was a punching bag for years for taking something as cool as vampires, and making them "lame." Then, of course, Twilight came along and put things in perspective. Also, there is no universal lore around Vampires. Their powers, how they're turned, what hurts them, etc...it's different every time. I am a fan of the Dracula-to-Anne Rice kind of Vampires, but I'm also a fan of the more monstrous/feral depictions. The new Nosferatu actually does an excellent job of blending the two approaches.

2025-02-10 12:36:14 +0000 UTCThe show didn't fundamentally change them. I was skeptical of changes when they were first announced, but what they changed ended up being shallow attributes compared to the overall themes of the original story that are conveyed artfully. Louis is still in a position of power over more vulnerable people working for him and still struggles with the same questions about morals and purpose. The characters have the same personalities and relationships with one another. The story still hits many of the same beats as the books while some changes to the plot are a purposeful result of leaning into the unreliable narrator that's used in the books. Not to mention the show captures the queer elements of the story that were previously censored and erased. The show captures the intention of the story, in my opinion, better than other adaptations. The way it implemented changes could only be done so well by people who cared about the source enough to properly understand and dissect it. It's not done in a flippant way. It's also nice that all the show's actors actually wanted to be there.

2025-02-10 08:45:42 +0000 UTCI saw this movie in the theatre (yes, I'm old!) , and was blown away! All the vampires looked amazing!

2025-02-10 05:05:35 +0000 UTCLouis De Pointe Du Lac was a white slave owner from France who was at least 100 years older than his counterpart on the show. The character on the TV show is so far removed from who and what Louis was that it's truly confusing why they didn't just make him an original character. I don't understand who you can claim the show gets the characters right, by fundamentally changing every single aspect of who and what they are.

2025-02-10 01:29:25 +0000 UTCThe movie is a fun time, but the show is one of the best on television at the moment. It’s phenomenal.

2025-02-09 23:53:56 +0000 UTCI don't want you guys to be overloaded with Vampire stuff since you are going through What We Do in the Shadows, but the Interview with the Vampire show is absolutely amazing. 10/10 would recommend.

2025-02-09 23:53:17 +0000 UTCI love this campy, silly movie, and I'm excited to watch it with you guys. But gosh, the TV series blows it out of the water when it comes to getting the characters right. Sam Reid was born to play Lestat. Plus, Grey Worm/Jacob Anderson as Louis! I hope you guys watch it at some point, if only because not enough reactors have done so and I know the community is rabid for more!

2025-02-09 23:31:35 +0000 UTCYes! Finally some movies to pair with What we do in Shadows. Bram Stokers Dracula would be my recommendation for next.
