I feel like Stannis was liked because he's a man of action in the show. He invaded King's Landing, he helped make a smoke demon baby to kill Renly, he got the Iron Bank to support him, he defended the Wall, etc.
Granted, all of those actions aren't just Stannis, but you get the idea. Regardless of the fact of how successful all these things were, no one can say Stannis was just sitting idly by. In a show of political plots and a lot of talking, Stannis makes moves. For some people, that's enough to make him an enjoyable character.

Do people really like Stannis? I've never liked him. The only thing I can relate to Stannis on is the Red Woman. I would've fallen under her spell too. And Ser Davos. I like him, but he's way too good for Stannis.

That ending scene with Jon giving Mance mercy is one of my favourites. It really cemented how much I loved that character

The witch is played by the same actress as Queen Calanthe on the first season of The Witcher.
And the musical bit is "A little Priest" from Sweeney Todd.

To be fair, Cersei does confess to killing her husband in season 4 (can't remember if it was to her father when she was saying wouldn't marry Loris or to Jaime when she told him she chose him). People just didn't pick up that she killed Robert with Lancel.

I think binging or watching this show weekly makes it seem more like things are moving quickly. I did not have a problem with this first two episodes because after a year of waiting for this season I assumed time had been skipped between seasons 4 and 5. I agree things move quickly from this season onward but for now I think you can still make sense of it. Also, Maple and Arianna have been saying things are moving fast since the start of the show lol. I wonder how they will feel when they get to S7 and especially S8 lol.

It might be interesting to note at this point that after the end of the story of season 4, which coincides with the end of book 3, George Martin initially wanted to put in like a 5 year time gap before the story continues in the next book.
You can see that it sort of makes sense, a lot of characters are at the natural end point of certain storylines and embarking on new ones; Jon back at the Night's Watch doing reconstructing after the battle with the wildlings, Stannis building his army, Arya doing her thing in Braavos, Tyrion away from Westeros trying to get to Daenerys, Dany deciding to stay in Meereen and rule, Sansa at the Eyrie learning politics, all of that.
But George found that this didn't quite work with certain characters like Cersei or Jaime or Brienne because there's just still too much to tell about what happens immediately after the events of season 4 and he didn't want to tell all of that in flashbacks. So he scrapped the 5-year-gap and just continued on immediately after. But that meant that some of the timeline had to be sped up. Which you can definitely also feel in the show, like with the dragons suddenly growing very quickly. They should have had 5 years to grow under the original plan.
Now the show messes up far beyond the mistakes of George Martin, but many fans believe that setting up the 5-year-gap only to then scrap it has led to many of the problems George has had entangling this story and why he has struggled continuing the series. And that ultimately leads to the show running out of material to adapt right around season 5-6 and unfortunately, it's noticeable.

So amazing to see them pick up on Lancel Lannister's whole thing. the first time I, and most likely many others, watched it we didn't recognize him enough to put 2 and 2 together to realize who he was. oh this season is going to be filled with a lot of big feelings for almost every storyline.
