Cellphones at this point were 2g using 2ff sims. You’d have been lucky to even use it for its intended purpose. Worrying about gps and spying is beyond fiction in 2003 or so. Consumer gps tech was still barely functional well into 2010. That said, assuming your phone even had a removable sim, breaking the phone in half would t help without also killing the sim. Most phones at the time had embedded sims and you would need to obliterate the phone to be sure.

You don’t need to do anything to the sim. Just break it if you want. I’ve worked in telecom 15 years I assure you taking the sim out is already enough if you just turn the phone off or break it.

Depends entirely on the phone.

The snapping a cell phone in half definitely doesn't work. All you were doing when you snap the phone in half was severing the connection to the display screen, every other component attached to the motherboard is still safely in the bottle of the phone. Think like if you are using a desktop PC and then unplugging the monitor, the PC is still on and working which is what actually matters in this situation. It's very likely that you could even call the phone and get a ping, because even the antenna is attached to the bottom half of the phone where the motherboard was.
Looks dope as hell though.
Edit: When I say "phone" I ofc mean flip phone. If you snap your iPhone or any other modern smart phone in half you will indeed snap the mother board in half and completely destroy it.

There's a bit of discourse about this online but the consensus is that no, snapping a flip phone in half won't break it enough - you're supposed to take the sim and battery out and mill or irreparably damage the sim. But it looks cool on camera!
It was fun seeing you talk about the cinematography. BCS is one of my fav shows of all time not just cuz the story and characters and arcs and writing are great (they are!) but the cinematography starts off at a 9/10 and ends at 10/10. honestly, S5 and S6 is insane how hard they go. I'll always prefer BCS to BB (which is a great show!) because you can feel the benefits of 7+ years of this crew making BB in ABQ together, all the lessons they learned crammed into every scene.
