Game of Thrones 3x8 Watch Along

Game of Thrones 3x8 Watch Along

Comments

yeah book Tyrion his nose is completely gone IIRC

OldManGrim

You're right, that must be why I was so surprised they didn't include it here, I must have remembered they did it at some point. Well, small mercies. It's a great line, it really would have been a shame to not include it.

Christophe

Just watched the 3x10 reaction and they did the "Everything" line from Davos and I remembered your comment, thought I'm come back to mention it.

Kara

Literally anyone who wasn't watching this show in real time had this same expectation hung over their head in 2013 because no one would shut up about it. So....

Ludus Aurea

Oh lort have mercy for next episode.

doesn’t matter

Book Tyrion is basically monstrous looking....In the books, the main reason Tyrion doesn't go all the way w/ Sansa is that he looks into her eyes and sees the same disdain and disgust he sees from everyone else in the world.. So it was more of a "fuck you too"... it wasn't him being chivalrous or honorable really... But tbh, I don't care anymore about what GRRM does or did with the novels. He fumbled the ball as bad, if not worse than D&D.. Just w/ better prose & dialogue.

Arson Stays Up Too Late Watching Video Tapes

Long haired mercenary guy that joined danny is Francis/Ajax the main villain from Deadpool. he has been in other stuff but thats the biggest one most recently i can think of.

Bob The SkuII

Yeah, fair point. A lot of people are a lot less attractive in the books. Like Gwendoline Christie is way too stunning for Brienne.

Christophe

Great reactions! I guess I'll say it: we know Daario (the wife guy from this ep) is from Bravos, the same place/city that Jaqen (the 'faceless man' Arya meets) is from. Melisandre has also said "Valar Morgulis" and we know she's from Essos, the continent that Dany is on right now (Westeros to the west, Essos to the east). Missandei (Dany's translator) also said it to her when they met. So at this point in the show we know it's not just faceless men (shapeshifters) who say "Valar Morghulis" (All Men Must Die) / "Valar Dohaeris" (All Men Must Serve), but different people from this region generally.

Kara

Worth adding that book Tyrion is a lot less conventionally attractive too. He's described very unflatteringly and the scar he has is a lot worse. The show lampshades this last episode (?) when Margery tells Sansa "he's quite handsome" referring to Peter Dinklage, who is basically way more attractive than book Tyrion.

Kara

Oh man, I didn't remember that they removed Davos' line from the books to Stannis' rhetorical question: - "What is the life of one bastard boy against a kingdom?" - "Everything." The chapter also ends on that exchange, signifying that that line and the meaning behind it was important to the author. D&D at it again, I suppose. "Themes are for eighth grade book reports" and all that. Who cares about your themes and deeper meanings and all that boring shit, on with the plot! So disappointing. Also, in the books, there is no stepladder but Sansa refuses to kneel for Tyrion to put his cloak around her. She's the POV character in that scene so we know that she does it out of a bit of pettiness to feel at least some power and control but I suppose it would have been kind of weird to do that in the show with no access to Sansa's internal monolog. And Tyrion is a lot more ambiguous in that scene in the bedroom. He admits to himself that he's sexually attracted to Sansa but feels ashamed for it. They go a lot further too, both getting undressed and it takes Sansa's obvious disgust at Tyrion's body for Tyrion to stop. In general, Tyrion is lot more morally gray in the books.

Christophe

I Ld'MAO when they said Daario is a faceless man because he said All Men Must Die.

Jonathan Blaze

Lol Daario being Jaaqen is like a 10+ year old book theory.

Johnny Maple

we're watching extra on sunday to make sure :)

Chad Gloria

They think Daario Naharis is gonna turn around and have a different face, like Jaqen H'gar?

Joe Blankenship

LOL-- "Time to make the chimi-fuckin'-changas."

Chris Bruneau

Ajax? Sounds suspiciously made-up. You sure his name isn't...Francis?

Sean Irvin

I hope they post episodes next week even though it's Thanksgiving.

Athasin

wonder what she saw him in??, he isnt really that well-known

Chris Bruneau

they havent seen deadpool lol

Chad Gloria

but oh man based on these, y'all will love season 4. also Maple what is the best paper mario chapter and why is it the Glitz Pit arc in TTYD

Joel Cook

"Daario is a Faceless Man" is a book-tier theory up there with "Tyrion is a time-traveling Secret Targaryen baby", except pretty sure the book tinfoil folk already have another character that's secretly Daario, haha. One of the (many) cliffhangers from where the books currently leave off is where faceless-man Jaqen fairly certainly reappears in Westeros later on. Highly anticiPATEd. Xd

Joel Cook

Stannis' daughter has a fictional disease called "greyscale"--its the Westeros equivalent of leprosy

Chris Bruneau

Looks like rain soon...

Ryley

Unnecessary.

Bryan Erickson

last one before the most anticipated episode :D

Isaac Godoy

Arianna, the guy you said was familiar is Ed Skrein--he played Ajax in Deadpool (2016)

Chris Bruneau

It's so funny you guys think that guy is a shape-shifting mastermind. The next season is going to be interesting
