Ted Lasso 3x5

Comments

I do like this episode and have never been a plot focused viewer. The season as a whole however is what I find baffling at times.

Zane Platt

Yeah, while it has some really good moments, season 3 was bizarrely written and constructed in a lot of ways. There are a lot of storylines that come out of nowhere and aren't compelling. The sudden change in runtime just leads to less focus, less laughs per minute etc. While nothing has been confirmed, I suspect that Bill Lawrence splitting time/departure was a big reason why the quality and sense of direction suffered. I really like Shrinking and that show feels a lot more like the first two seasons of Lasso.

It's fun seeing you guys speculating on what's to come from the perspective of someone who does know what's to come and chuckling when we know you're off track and being impressed when you've nailed it. Anyway, that's my best non-spoilery way to say that your reactions are great.

Man this was such a nothing episode. I'm trying hard not be too negative on this season but these needlessly long run times are really starting to show, this episode dragged so much. What actually happened in this episode besides Zava leaving and Jack and Keeley hooking up? It really seems like they fired their script editing team for this season, they needed to tighten that shit up. They had a couple of longer episodes in season 2 like "Man City" but it generally seemed like the episodes deserved it. In this season they just extend the run time an additional 20–30 minutes each time for no reason at all and they're just faffing around. The humour has also gotten significantly worse, in my opinion, and I think it's directly tied to the fact that the episodes are too long now. The jokes used to be so quick fire, you really had to pay attention to get them all because it was all so tightly written. Now the humour seems to have mostly devolved to these drawn out bits that all go on just those few beats too long and just end up annoying, like that monkey bit or that wild no-gesturing from a couple episodes ago. Even Roy's crazy story about beating up bullies just felt a bit too long even if it was a pretty good bit. And all of that really interrupts the flow of the episode. I'm also reaaally not a fan that for some reason, they decided that psychics are real for this season. Like her predictions were not some sort of horoscope type vague shit that always seems to come true no matter what happens if you just believe it. She predicted super specific stuff to happen and for some reason it does. It's just stupid.

Maple continously suggesting that Rebecca will get a baby by Rupert and Bex dying is hilarious, and at the time, even some fans were saying the same thing so it's not that out there. However, I cannot imagine her ever being happy raising a child of Rupert's that wasn't hers. That said, keep hoping. Also, I cannot wait to see your reaction to episode 6. Like others have said, it is an incredible episode, and my favorite of the entire series!

I wouldn't even compare it to the S2 Beard episode, because while that had some really cool stuff in it, you could have skipped it and not really be lost in the overall season story arc while watching the next episode. I think you could characterize S3E6 as a very distinct episode this season, but there's a very specific reason for that which I won't say so as to not spoil anything. IYKYK. But a few things definitely happen in the episode that have very specific implications for future episodes.

DTGstl314

Yeah, it's not filler at all. It's just got a little different vibe than the other episodes this season, but there are some major plot developments. I think of "filler" as an episode you could skip without missing any key details for future episodes, like the S2 Christmas episode.

DTGstl314

Agree 100%. I hate spoilers, but even more I hate anyone saying anything. It doesn’t matter if someone doesn’t say something specific to the plot, I just want to go in with zero knowledge. I absolutely love episode 6. It is probably my favorite episode as well.

See, it’s so weird that you two saw Jade and Nate completely differently. I ever thought he was trying to make her jealous. She’d not shown any interest in him at all and he’s way too timid. At least that’s how I always saw it. It’s interesting

Christina H

Shandy .. I would have loved to play her. I bet Shandy was super fun to play. I weirdly love her. I died laughing when she was fired Ambreen was perfect.

Christina H

Maybe we shouldn’t all keep talking about it. I don’t want to ruin anything for them. These are best going into them with no expectations. I’ve often wondered a person could be brainwashed to forget a TV show, only the show. Every episode. So then they could rewatch it again for the first time. I’d do that.

Christina H

It would only be considered a filler if you considered "football" to be the plot of the show (and even then, that's a stretch). I think most people would agree with me that "character development" is the plot of Ted Lasso, and why many love the next episode.

Slick447

True, you guys are all right. I didn't mean it was a filler as a regular filler episode of tv, it's a filler in a similar vein as we got the Coach Beard stand-alone episode in season 2. The plot is moved and set up for the rest of the season in this episode, so it is a pivotal episode of the show.

Tteaal

I can see why you could consider it relatively stand-alone, but it's absolutely not filler. I also think it might be the best episode of the third season.

Jeff K

I also don’t think it is a filler episode and it is definitely my favorite Ted lasso episode

Elizabeth Schnitzer

Its most definitely not a filler

laluneodyssee

I never thought S3E6 was a filler. I won’t say why I feel it isn’t because I don’t want to inadvertently ruin or spoil anything. I will say .. It is my very favorite episode. Of any TV show. Ever.

Christina H

As a heads up, episode 6 is sort of a filler episode, it could be a stand-alone one that drops so that after wards we'll be back on the even number of episodes to get through the finale in episode 12. Just a suggestion of course
