Ted Lasso 2x10

Hey everyone! We’ve noticed some concerns about Ted Lasso only being released one episode a week recently, and we wanted to share a bit of context. 😊

When the show’s episodes were around 30 minutes, we were able to fit in two per session without a problem. Now that the episodes are 45-50 minutes long, what used to take us one hour is now closer to two hours of filming. Given our 10-hour filming days, it’s not always possible to add in that extra hour without running the risk of burnout.

We want to bring you the best reactions possible, and that means we have to consider quality over quantity sometimes. But rest assured, when we can fit it in, we’ll absolutely try to include a second episode for Ted Lasso when time allows. Thanks so much for understanding and for your continued support—it means the world to us! 💖

Y'all need to invest in better chairs lol.

You two are so cute. 🥰 This show is a roller coaster of emotions and laughter.

I completely believe that Sassy is really Rebecca’s inner voice personified. After her forced politeness to Rupert, along comes Sassy to let him have it.

You could go as Keeley & Rebecca for Halloween.

Maple's mouth falling open for the final Rickroll made me cackle because even though they'd already rickrolled the audience twice in the episode, you really weren't expecting it again.

Victoria Brewer

"Keeley dresses like an Anne Frank journal" LOL!

The power dynamic, she Rebecca being the club's owner and Sam being an employee (no matter that his income is greater than that of many of us put together) is the only issue here. Given the kind of show this is, I expect that if they were to part ways down the road the split would be amicable and there would be no public recriminations. If both parties are above the age of consent then age is a dumb argument against the relationship. My own parents married when my dad was a 31-year-old war veteran and my mom was an 18-year-old recent high school graduate. I'm not going to argue that their case is the norm, but they had one of the most loving relationships I've ever been witness to. There are cultural taboos (often for good reasons), but no hard fast rules.

One of my favorite Ted episodes... you get the funny and get the feels. Where else do you get a Sir Mix-A-Lot joke within an emotional breakup scene. Also, the joke about not needing to wait overnight to get dress shoes was hilarious to me on first watch.

I’m pretty much here for Ted Lasso. But with the number of shows and movies you’re watching, one per week is more than reasonable.

Agree with your sentiment overall about the huge power imbalance, but with regard to your point about Sam getting most of his money from advertising stuff, if he's lucky... footballers at the highest levels in the UK are not poor and anybody who has seen this whole series knows that Sam is not poor (nor are any of the other main players on the team). Yes, Rebecca is considerably wealthier than Sam or any of the other young men who play for her club, but they're all quite wealthy themselves as well - she's a billionaire and they're all millionaires. It's pretty much the same as American pro athletes in the NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL and the obscenely wealthy people who own the teams they play for.

Dear diegesis crew, we know this is a side hustle and you have full lives outside of the "green room." It's totally fine!!! 😉

Rupert dating (marrying) younger women is the least of his "bad" qualities. Rupert is a villain because he's a cheater and treats those women like crap. He's mean and vindictive and to quote something he basically admitted to Ted, "a real piece of shit." Not only to Rebecca but to everyone who doesn't suck up to him. Sassy nailed him in this episode. Sure, Rebecca and Sam is problematic in the power imbalance. I think deported or assassinated is a bit exaggerated though. The age thing is weird, but that's more of a private issue between them.

Marty McGee

Since you ask, Rebecca should not date Sam because: a) she could get him fired, if not deported, if not assassinated, whenever she feels like it, b) she can remember Live Aid while he can't remember 9/11, c) he gets most of his money from advertising stuff, if he's lucky, while she buys and sells newspapers for fun. The power imbalance is worse than Harvey Weinstein and Lupita Nyong'o, and the show's unwillingness to deal with that is by far the weakest part of it. Like, the best defense I've heard is comparing Rebecca with Rupert, who also dates a much younger woman while paying her student loans and buying her football clubs just to be cute, but Rupert is a VILLAIN. We're supposed to dislike him because he does these things. The show seems to think it's great and cool when Rebecca does it because she refuses Sam out of hand at first but then he wears her down. Anyway, yay, this is probably my favorite episode.

When you all finish up Ted Lasso, might I suggest the show Shrinking? Same writer as Ted Lasso (and Scrubs). Also Apple TV. Dramatic comedy. Feel good (mostly). New season comes out next week. Easily my favorite show of last year.

Paul Bonnette

@Cristophe - and Arianna hit the nail on the head with her assessment of that scene. It's obviously a heartfelt moment between Rebecca and her mom, but OF COURSE the writers were going for a laugh at the same time. Because when someone Rickrolls a church full of funeral goers, obviously, that's supposed to be played for comedy.

Only tangentially related: Rick Astley was on the podcast Off Menu with Ed Gamble and James Acaster recently (great podcast, by the way), and comes across as such a good, grounded dude. And I do enjoy that this episode included the old joke about how everyone thought he was Black (it wasn't a joke at the time the song was released, of course; people genuinely DID hear his voice and assume he was Black, but it's obviously become a joke since then).

Jeff K

Well to be fair to the vicar, it is his church 😅 it might be their funeral but they chose to hold it in his church, so I think he has some right to have a say over the conduct in it.

What are you talking about, being mad at the bad guy is like expected behavior. Are they just supposed to sit there all analytical "ah yes, the foil to our secondary protaganist has just established his role in the narrative, hmm yes"? You're supposed to get mad at Rupert. Also, Rebecca humming Never Gonna Give You Up during the eulogy was clearly supposed to be a comedic moment, what are you even on about? 🤨

Christophe

Being mad at a bad guy for being the bad guy is wild. Also, laughing during the eulogy? Serial killer behavior.
