Oh lmfao I’ve only seen season one of The Bear and thought they were confusing Marco and Matty

2024-09-27 15:24:04 +0000 UTCGreat reaction, great opening season! Kim is so great that you can take a week off and when you finally check in she's got you a partner track job at a great law firm 🙏 ez. Maple is so right, when Mike is on screen im like "yay more mike" and then when Jimmy is on screen i'm like "yay more Jimmy", I don't yearn for the other. imo this stays strong throughout, with even more threads woven in. I relate hard to Arianna re: Maple's on some references, it's funny how much a few years difference makes re: cultural context. It's easy to forget because the show made six seasons and is finished with great reviews, but they really cooked with this season one. They were following up Breaking Bad, a great show but also you know how the BB fans are... that they pulled this off in a way that feels stylistically unique but also equally high quality production is amazing! Would have been so easy for it to be a 1-2 season flop or minor success like so many spinoffs or followups. Instead they made a show which many of us consider to be as good (or better??? 👀) than Breaking Bad. Also as a few of us predicted, it's much more enjoyable to watch ten reactions where people aren't aggressively defending a bald man in the comments 👨🏻🦲

2024-09-26 01:13:28 +0000 UTCI was screaming on the inside at Maple not getting the 'Price is Right' and Kevin Costner references 🤣🤣😭 I'm freaking old. Great reaction as always btw.

2024-09-25 20:45:33 +0000 UTCA fitting finale to a great season! the call backs to the ring Saul wears and the Kevin Costner references are nice touches. looking forward to Season-2 and the continual "breaking bad" of Jimmy McGill Also a shout out to Maple and Arianna for recognizing the 1972 song: "Smoke on the Water' by Deep Purple, I'm a lot older than them and that song is before MY time!!

2024-09-25 16:59:11 +0000 UTCI think it is still fine. Saul can be seen, like Maple said, to have kind of a child-like essence, to make extravagant statements about his life and how he will be and throw a bit of a tantrum. I think how they start s2 with how his feelings manifest is fine.

2024-09-25 14:38:28 +0000 UTCTo your first part, I think that's probably the only part of BCS that doesn't quite hold up in retrospect. They accelerated his transformation very quickly in these last few episodes, not knowing how much more show they were gonna get, and then at the beginning of season 2, they kind of back-peddle, take it more slowly and even retcon some stuff. It's fine, it's clear why they did it the way they did, but the beginning of season 2 can give you a bit of whiplash.

2024-09-25 08:06:10 +0000 UTCI agree, I also like the way BCS does it more. Jimmy is his own person but it still feels like he is almost being dragged down this path, at least that's how he feels, like the universe is telling him that that is the only way for him. At least Jimmy's right that that path has always been the easier path for him. Whereas with Walt, he had so many opportunities to quit and he kept acting like he wasn't in it for the long haul but just to make enough money for his family, while in reality he chose that life over and over.

2024-09-25 03:38:12 +0000 UTCWhen they wrote the first season of BCS, it was unclear if they were going to get a second season, so they ended it in a way that could have led to Jimmy becoming Saul. Jimmy still has a lot of growth to do though! Also, the shot of Jimmy "looking east" toward the court to meet with Davis and Main is one of my favorite shots of the series. He's looking toward what he perceives to be his past, trying to appease Chuck by ignoring his Slippin' Jimmy half. Such a simple motif that they built up from scratch in this episode with that incredible coin scam, but the isolated shot of Jimmy's right half (the side he isn't wearing Marco's ring on) is beautiful and captures that duality of Jimmy's personality. They really let the cinematography team turn it up from BrBa!

2024-09-25 03:04:30 +0000 UTCTheres a stark difference between how breaking bad and better call saul handle their main character’s decent into criminality. I always liked BCS a bit more, arguably, its more tragic. But again the parallels between Jimmy and Walter are always there, every blow adds another layer to their development and its just so good

2024-09-25 02:28:32 +0000 UTCThere was a scene in Breaking Bad where Saul said that he once convinced a girl he was Kevin Costner. There are plenty of fun callbacks to B.B., love this show. Also, I always love a fun montage. Can't get enough of em.
