Better Call Saul 1x2

Comments

I feel like BCS is a little more “leave you in the dark until the moment I want you to know something” than BB was. Think like, the pre-episode black and white snippets of the eventual plane crash, but like, through the whole series with multiple characters, backstories, events and other things. It’s annoying not having a lot answered for longer than expected but they really pull off some masterful reveals that just make being in the dark so worth it later on. It does get better tho you’ll feel a little less lost the more you watch, obvi but yanno lol

Fun fact, the revolver Tuco is using most resembles the Taurus Judge, a revolver chambered in .45 Longcolt also capable of firing .410 shotgun shells. But it’s fun how he uses that gun and Jimmy leans into the “judge” aspect of Tuco to simmer him down.

part of the fun for BB fans is looking for all the side-character cameos and call backs found in BCS. Kudos to you both for remembering Tuco's henchman --the one who is "helping." there are several more coming, so keep your eyes peeled :)

4? Am I not seeing two additional episodes somewhere?

I think part of what this show does really well is show you things instead of just telling you things. Like, they could have just thrown in the relationship between Chuck and Jimmy in some forced line right away, but you piece together that they are related since they are both McGill, and he's probably not a dad, since he always calls him by his first name, so either an uncle or brother. I think they say for sure next episode. I feel like it helps keep you interested and invested in figuring things out, and makes the reveals feel that much better.

Ah yes i remember now from when i first watch this show the frustration in they do not tell you very much about the characters in the beginning, like i wanted to scream who tf is this Chuck guy?!

sablo

preaching to the choir, Mad Men is my fav show of all time lol

A slower pace is refreshing and allows you to enjoy a lot of very deliberate and interesting filmmaking choice, I love it. I wish more people who consume media were open to it taking its time instead of needing a scene to get to some important action or dialogue withing 10 seconds of starting. Everything in this show feels like every single department is firing on all cylinders and making amazing art together, from sound to set design to writing to editing, and everything else.

If there’s one criticism I have of the entire show, it’s actually right here in these first couple episodes. There’s no reason to be this cagey about what exactly Jimmy and Chuck’s familial relationship is. I’m not even sure it was intentionally confusing. Like, they could’ve had a line that just flat out said, “brother” and an editor cut it out with no one realizing that this became sorta unclear for a few episodes. It’s a side effect of what is generally one of the show’s strengths. Character-wise , the show settles the viewer into a fly on the wall perspective. The writers try their best to let the characters simply speak from their own pov rather than forcing plot points and exposition into the dialogue. It’s the sorta thing that is confusing before you know the characters well, but rewarding as heck once you do know them well.

I can't say what without spoiling but I think it's a constant linear ramp season by season. And 4 onwards is nuts.

Kara

Idk, I feel like seasons 2 and 3 actually kind of roll back the pace because it was clear that they didn't know how many seasons they were going to get at first, so they didn't know how fast they needed to tell their story. But I think the main reason people say that is because they're coming from Breaking Bad which is definitely a different beast. And too many people were annoyed that BCS isn't Breaking Bad. Which is kind of stupid, prequels/sequels/spin-offs regularly get criticized when they don't stand on their own feet and try too hard to appeal to their original fanbase. I think it's good that BCS is its own thing and that it's very different to BB.

Christophe

first great montage of the show, I forgot how much they go off this early

Kara

The cinematography is so refined in this show, it’s a treat to rewatch

I guess I'm old--never heard "biznatch" before! had to look it up on urban dictionary --LOL 🤣🤣🤣

Chris Bruneau

"I just talked you down from a death sentence to 6 months' probation, I'm the best lawyer ever." So it continues. I legit love how confused you are 😂 you'll get all the answers you need. People call S1 in particular a slow burn but I'm not sure, it immerses you in a world and the lives of these characters and there's a lot going on. But later seasons definitely "pick up pace". I too love Jimmy and Mike's relationship beginning with the 'troll under the bridge asking for tickets' 😂, Jimmy being so broke he goes back to get the extra sticker rather than paying $5... i've been there. Nacho (Michael Mando) is a fun new character, I love how soft spoken he is and how he pulls the insane Tuco back from the brink a bit. "The lawyer, he's giving you respect" my guy reeeaaally didn't want to have to bury the body of a civilian lawyer not 'in the game' lol. Every time Kim isn't on the screen I'm asking "Where's Kim?"

Kara

It's technically a spoiler but I think it gets confirmed next episode and it's inferable since Jimmy calls Chuck "Chuck", not Dad.

Kara

Those skaters really earned that ass-kicking.

Liesmith

I agree, this is just some good info upfront. Watching it for the first time, people were probably wondering about Chuck and Jim's relations until a few more episodes, but I think it doesn't ruin anything to know that they are brothers. Especially if you are doing a reaction channel where you probably only watch a series once because there's so much out there to watch.

Damien Lupo

Girls, its a slow burn--we have a long journey before the events of Breaking Bad occur, that's all lm gonna say.

Chris Bruneau

I feel confident that I can clarify, as I don't think it's a spoiler, Chuck is Jimmy's brother. Also, you may not recall, but the first time Saul meets Walt, as Walt is posing as Badger's uncle, he says, "A fellow potato eater! My real name's McGill."

Jeff K

I'm happy you enjoyed the opening of the show! The first episode was such a perfect opening to see a grim present with "Gene" living his new life per the vacuum guy. It's crazy to think that it takes place after so many events have occurred. Walt is dead, Jesse is gone, and of course authorities are looking for anyone at all connected to the business, Saul most certainly included. The start of the show is a slow burn, but I absolutely love the change in pace. The stakes are so different compared to Walt and Jesse trying to overcome obstacles in the meth business. Can't wait for more episodes!

Lorenzo Baxter

I was literally sitting here smokin up and watching comedy reactions on my phone when this popped up lol. But yea for yall I simply can't wait.

Andrew Clifton

lol you're good. you're just fast haha

Chad Gloria

4 total BCS and GoT in one drop?! Damn it, I'm supposed to be up early tomorrow. Oh well, guess it's a late night and I'll need some extra coffee in the morning 🤣
