Ladies Thomas has always been deeply in love with grace! I personally liked may more too, he just never did

Jacob Livingston

Tommy never was into may like that girls! She was his rebound. I hope this doesn’t make yall not like the show 😂😂😂

Jacob Livingston

Tommy was never into May.

Ronald Foster

You guys are looking at the May thing from a modern feminist viewpoint. Yes, today it's great for a woman to have her own life, but back then it just wasn't the thing. May was given what she has from her father and late husband, it's not a self built empire by any means. If you look at it from a man's perspective, Grace is what makes sense. Men follow their passion, not their heads. From the day Tommy met Grace, it was always going to be her. Tommy wants to build his empire for his family, not settle down with a woman that already has everything he's working towards. He was head over heals for Grace, not May, she was always just a place filler.

Jennifer Epperson

I've never understood "Team May". It's totally obvious that Tommy only ever loved Grace.

Jennifer Epperson

Steven Knight confirmed a long time ago that one of the main reasons they didn't choose May for Tommy is because Tommy's ambitions are based on what he can do himself, so the riches and stature of marrying May is what he wants to gain himself not marry into. This was from something I saw in 2019 so I'm probably getting the details wrong but it makes perfect sense from how it was explained.

May would make more sense of course but from a guys perspective, he LOVED Grace. We don't pick the girl based on being the "right" choice, we pick them based on love. There was never love there with May

I think tommy and may were meant for each other, in s2 ep6 the way tommy talked to may his words just had more meaning and passion, and with grace he was just listening i think he liked grace but married grace because for him was the right thing to do like when he wanted freddy to marry ada when she got pregnant truly unfortunate

Nik

As a dude, I preferred May. I get what you mean though, its almost like Tommy had taken the more "typical" young female mindset route and chose the toxic, baggage, rough past relationship (Grace) over the weirdly understanding, calm, already learned from past mistakes relationship (May). I do wonder that if Grace wasn't pregnant, he would've went with May.

Also a big May fan. My interpretation of it has always been that the writers want it to feel like how Tommy said it in 2x6 "So fucking close!" He is so close to the way you want things to play out for him, but not quite. Its just a big edge fest.

Fully conscious baby bahaha

No I get what you're saying, I got your point the first time around. I feel like you're the one who didn't get what I was saying ^^' I guess it depends on where you think the point of inevitability for Grace was. If you're saying that after they finished season 2, when they wrote season 3, yeah I agree, Grace & Tommy was where the story was headed and it would have made for a weird left turn if they had come back to May. My point is, is that after season 1, it wasn't yet inevitable, it would have been very easy to write the story in a way that made sense and where Tommy moved on and Grace was never seen again. She would still have been an important memory for him, something that he carried around with him, but after season 1, Grace coming back wasn't inevitable at all. One of the things that always bothered me the most about this series, as much as it is well produced and acted and the cinematography is on point, the writing is always only season by season, and it's too obvious that that's the case. They always leave the door open for multiple different ways the story could go in the next season and there isn't a plan for where the story is ultimately headed. That always made it feel kind of directionless to me. But obviously, because they do that, they very much leave themselves open to go in different directions with their characters after each season and basically any plot line could be justified. Not going with Grace after season 1: very possible, maybe even what they should have done. Not going with Grace after season 2: weird, but they still left the door open for that as well which is why I think not everybody saw it coming or thought it was inevitable.

Fully understand wanting to get more info (I do the same) but googling things seems so risky for spoilers and stuff! Anyway enjoying the reactions, it's been a fun ride so far!

FG

She is May is better. I was saying I understand why Grace was picked.

ZitherManifesto

As a Man, choosing Grace over May is,... well he was just in love. An affliction for which there is no cure. May is better in every conceivable way.

Cold Binterp

I’ll say it again. I prefer May too. I never defended Grace herself. You’re arguing to a brick wall. I only said that he does love her. And I said that because they tried to come up with every reason possible that they could have gotten married besides loving her. That’s how they wrote it. It was inevitable in the way the writers wrote it. And to be fair saying “the writers made it so” is kinda funny because like yeah, just like every other decision and plot point in the show whether we agree with it or not. It’s not a true story obviously.

CK12341

For the Male perspective or at least my Male perspective. It makes 100% sense why he picked Grace. Guys are harder to move past Love than women IMO. Also for it being 1920's and getting a woman pregnant, his self-duty is to marry her.

ZitherManifesto

it's not that hard to believe he'd marry grace. He was a MESS when grace was gone, may at most was a fling.

Jake Lebbern

Sure but he only headed that way because the writers made it so. They could have never mentioned Grace again after season 1 and gone in a different direction with Tommy. It wasn't inevitable. And Grace is just such a nothingburger of a character, I just feel nothing for her. Which is actually kind of impressive because her backstory has the potential to make for a very interesting character but instead she's just so... meh.

Christophe

I'm already so impatient to see next week reaction tho :D

Ker'Mhod

look, I also prefer May over Grace big time, but Tommy definitely was in love with Grace. He was moping about it years later still throughout all of season 2. Also, he did and has been promising things about essentially "getting out of the game" to multiple people since the beginning so it's not that unreasonable for her to be looking forward to that eventually. Like I said, I still prefer May, but this is deinitely where Tommy was headed. Especially since she was pregnant with his kid too.
