I feel like this episode is the true start of Blackthorne's growth and understanding of their culture. He not only saved Toranaga's psychical body but his HONOR too by giving him his swords (and in doing so also restoring Fuji's father's honor). Then John rushing to Fuji and being at her side to comfort her, and then immediately without rest goes to restore Uejirou's garden and fixes his rock, that part really touched my heart "without a good rock, a garden is just a place of growing". It says a lot for how far the “barbarian” has come on his journey!
