2024-06-07 04:59:51 +0000 UTCActually, old cannon balls were reused. At first, people used rocks, but an irregular rock destroys the cannon or breaks apart. Then people used all sorts of metal. If it was just iron, locals usually picked it up and sold it to the next smith. It wasn't really expensive, but still worth enough to sell it as scrap, especially if it landed in your field and was messing up farms. If an attacking army got their hands on old metal lumps, they definitely woud just have heated it up and made a new cannon ball out of it. After all, it's just a heavy rund ball, not a modern day bullet. It's not really hard to make. Did this happen often? Probably not. Do we have some prove for it happening at least once? Yes.
