FACTS. Only prequel ever to #1 just be done perfectly and so good. But #2 be just as good if not better than the original show that was already a MASTERPIECE

2024-12-21 19:41:46 +0000 UTCI do think it's unfair to compare Walt and Gus at this stage. Gus is a business genius and Walt is a nerd genius. Thing is tho Gus has already been doing this 20 years plus while Walt is a newborn in comparison. I think they are pretty equal in terms of genius but they've had 2 very different paths on their life. In Chile I'm sure Gus has seen a lot of shit. This is one of my favorite episodes. Ariana just said it perfect, "Gus is the bad guy I want". He is the perfect villain.

2024-03-30 20:53:59 +0000 UTCGus originally accepted Walt's request to work with Jesse because Walt told him "he's my partner & I trust him". He knew what it felt like to lose a trusted partner. A loophole of mine in this episode is that Gus doesn't address Walt by his name at Los Pollos when he's with the bug- even though Hank, the rest of Walt's family and some of the dea already know of their relationship. Also Hank is being extremely inconsiderate to Walt by planting the bug & getting him involved with a high level drug dealer. It could come back to hurt Walt or his family. Hank technically is a "bad cop" and he has his breaking bad moments

2024-03-30 19:38:21 +0000 UTCSaying what "isn't covered in the show" is a spoiler. It closes off an area of speculation.

2024-03-30 19:27:35 +0000 UTCYou mean they talk about how the character was developed, or what his in-universe background is? I wonder if Chad was holding off for this episode or something in the future.
Dan
2024-03-30 18:31:39 +0000 UTCWhat's never covered in the show is Gus' background in Chile. It's assumed that he was someone working within the government or the resistance that attempted the assassination on Pinochet. Many people involved escaped to Germany after the assassination attempt. Don Eladio knows Gus has some type of reputation from his past, that's why he didn't kill him.

2024-03-30 18:30:41 +0000 UTCDA: I own the special edition of BB on DVD, they go into the whole Gus backstory. i asked chad about posting it, but he seemed to want me to hold off.

2024-03-30 18:19:25 +0000 UTC** Gus was intended as a one-off plot device. He wasn't supposed to be a big character, just a middleman. Giancarlo Esposito went off script and played him like a villain anyway, entirely on his own, building up a mystique... and then he strong-armed the show-runners into hiring him on as a full-time character by refusing to play small-bit cameos in Season 3. This, apparently, is what the writers came up with to satisfy his demands! When you're done with this show, you can look up a YouTube presentation by FactFiend that breaks down how Gus came to exist in the Breaking Bad universe.

2024-03-30 18:02:50 +0000 UTCThis is my favorite reaction from you girls BY FAR! It's so great watching Ariana put all the pieces together. Her in-chair spaz-out at 49:39 was awesome! Yes, Season 3 AND Season 4 of Gus' backstory has been slowly building, all the pieces, all the things he's done... In the interview with the DEA, he says the scholarship is in the name of a man named Maximilian. In the flashback, his partner's name is "Max". It's the same Max! These fuckin' writers, man. They don't just come out and tell you who Gus is and what his motivations are. He started off as an enigma at the end of Season 2, meant as a mere plot device** "Oh look, this mild mannered guy is willing to meet with Walt in a restaurant. Oh, he has a darker side. Oh, he's saving Walt, but putting Hank in the crosshairs of the twins. No, wait, he's saving Hank! No wait, he's just trying to secure his own profits north of the Mexican border. No, wait, he's cutthroat - as in, cut-throat. With a box cutter. No wait, no wait..." Is he really the one to root for, though? I guess we'll see...
Dan
2024-03-30 17:57:36 +0000 UTCDo you see the parallels between Gus and Max and Walter and Jesse? Probably another reason they are still alive. The last four eps of this season are cray-cray. I was late in discovering this show and when I got towards the end of this season, it's when it really hit me how brilliant this show was.

2024-03-30 14:31:31 +0000 UTCMaple and Arianna in season-2 "oh I hope nothing happens to that sweet old man in the wheelchair"--now... LOL

2024-03-30 14:28:59 +0000 UTCThe run from 4x7 through the end of this season is maybe my favorite stretch of episodes across any show. Love when you finally get some more backstory on Gus, and totally understand the feeling of wanting to root for him as a villain.
