Zuko did do this in the war room in “The Storm” episode! He was being awful to the officers and Iroh had to tell them the story of how he was banished in the first place. At the end he helps them as the storm is raging them and see’s Aang flying and decides to let him go so they can get to safety. Before Azula and his mom were introduced fully.
